Yesterday KEYS Service Corps members and National Health Corps Pittsburgh joined together for a virtual service project writing over 500 cards for frontline workers who have done so much for our community over the past year. Our MLK Day of service may have looked a bit different this year but it was a very meaningful project honoring the legacy of Dr. King

Alumni Spotlight:
Neal Donovan served at the Brashear Association in 2017-2018 and is currently the recruiting and East End Program Coordinator at PULSE (Pittsburgh Urban Leadership and Service Experience)
This is what he had to say about his service term:
“My time at Brashear's afterschool program, ALEC, combined my interest in working with youth and my introduction to nonprofits in Pittsburgh. I particularly enjoyed creating relationships with each student through fun games, jokes, and crafts, because I got to know them better, while also earning a voice in their lives. Brashear also exposed me to nonprofit work in Pittsburgh and inspired me to pursue a role in the nonprofit sector. I am thankful for my time with KEYS, because it set me up to work with PULSE, where I get to promote and support young adults looking to serve their community, like I did.”

Meet Alexander!
Host Site: Urban Academy of Greater Pittsburgh Charter School
Hometown: Rockville, Maryland
Fun Fact: Before working with kids he worked with kids (Baby Goats) at a goat farm!
Why he is serving:
“I was looking to redevelop my skills working with the youth, such working through how to frame a message towards a younger audience, as well as simply looking for an opportunity to re experience the grade school environment from a difference angle, and KEYS provided the right opportunity and professional support to give me that chance. This service term will be one that provides some of the necessary hands on experience and perspectives I need in order to work towards becoming an Education Lawyer. In which I hope to influence a more fulfilling educational environment for Teachers, Students and After School Care Providers.”

Here is what she had to say about her term:
“KEYS was my first position after graduating from college. The staff and members helped to guide me and teach me the professionalism necessary for a successful career.
