ACT NOW: Stand with USW’s Atomic Energy Workers!
Proposed changes to the WIPP permit in New Mexico could disrupt nuclear cleanup operations across the country, threaten union jobs, and create major backlogs at facilities where USW members work.
USW is opposing these harmful changes because working people should not pay the price for policies that weaken safety and stability.
Take action today! Submit a public comment opposing the proposal and stand up for safe operations and good union jobs:

Michigan’s labor movement, union members, community partners, and lawmakers came together today to urge the Michigan Supreme Court to uphold the state constitution and stand with working people.
Shout out to USW Locals 12075-1, 8422, 2-987, District 1 staff, and Jennifer Wirrick from USW Local 9036 for standing in solidarity.
These stalled bills impact workers across Michigan, from public transportation employees to juvenile justice and correction workers, and so many more.
The message is simple: Speaker Matt Hall must immediately transmit these bills to Governor Whitmer. Working people have waited long enough.

Michigan workers fought hard for progress and in 2024, the Legislature passed 9 bills to improve wages, healthcare, and pensions for millions of working families.
But for over a year, State Representative Matt Hall has stalled these bills and blocked workers from getting the relief they deserve. Now, the fight is headed to the Michigan Supreme Court.
Join us tomorrow, May 6 at 9AM near the Michigan Supreme Court steps as USW members, labor allies, community partners, and lawmakers stand together to demand action.
Working people can’t wait any longer. Tell Matt Hall to do the right thing and transmit the stalled bills NOW: https://act.aflcio.org/petitions/republicans-and-democrats-need-to-put-workers-first/

Hundreds of thousands of workers were hit hard when Congress ended the federal Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program in 2022.
Now, United Steelworkers members are fighting to bring it back—and Linda T. Sánchez has introduced legislation to restore it stronger than before.
“Not having it is nothing short of a nightmare,” said USW Local 6511 President Al King, noting hundreds of laid-off miners could have benefited.
Workers deserve better. Let’s bring TAA back.
Hundreds of thousands of workers across numerous industries got kicked in the gut when Congress ended the federal Trade Adjustment Assistance (TAA) program in 2022.
USW members continue fighting to bring back the program, which provided retraining and other support to displaced workers, and we got a boost last month when U.S. Rep. Linda T. Sánchez introduced legislation that would reestablish TAA with even stronger benefits than before.
“Not having it is nothing short of a nightmare,” said USW Local 6511 President Al King, noting the program potentially would benefit about 600 miners on Minnesota’s Iron Range who were laid off last year amid international trade disputes.

Today, we pause to honor and remember.
April 28 is Workers’ Memorial Day, a day to recognize the workers who never made it home and to recommit ourselves to fighting for those still on the job.
Every name. Every life. Every family impacted. This is why Rapid Response matters.
No job should cost a life. No family should carry that loss because of unsafe conditions, ignored standards, or corporate shortcuts. Safety isn’t optional it’s a right.
Today we, Remember the fallen, Stand with their families, Fight for stronger protections, Raise our voices for safer workplaces
We don’t just mourn, we organize. Because the best way to honor those we’ve lost is to protect those still working.

ACT NOW: Support HB 4007 & HB 4283!
Michigan’s Upper Peninsula cut emissions by 70% using natural gas RICE units, but current law doesn’t count that progress.
If not fixed ▪️ Union jobs are at risk ▪️ Higher energy costs ▪️ Unnecessary new buildouts
These bills protect jobs, affordability, and reliable power—but time is running out before summer recess.
We’re calling on Senators Brinks, McCann, Moss, McMorrow, and Camilleri to act now.
Protect jobs. Keep the lights on.

Proud to stand with our union family at the USW District 11 Rapid Response Lobby Day in Minnesota!
We came together to lift the voices of working people, push for policies that protect our rights, and make sure legislators hear directly from those on the front lines. This is what solidarity in action looks like.
Great connecting with Senator John Hoffman, appreciate the time and dialogue on issues that matter to our members.
When we show up, we make a difference!
