Uchenna Mbawuike is an Intern at Women of Color Advancing Peace AND Security (WCAPS) with their Illicit Trafficking Working Group. Her current research interests include human trafficking and s*x slavery networks in Nigeria. Through her internship, a partnership with WIIS-Pitt and WIIS-NY, she is conducting research and drafting a policy brief on the importance of supporting women of color led efforts that address gender-based s*xual violence, slavery and exploitation in Nigeria. While pursing her MPPM’21, she also works full-time as a research specialist at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing, managing several federally funded projects related to late-life cognitive disorders in vulnerable communities. At GSPIA, Uchenna is a member of the Executive Board Leadership for the Students of Color Alliance (SOCA), recently awarded the Inclusion Award for Community Building by the Association of Professional Schools of International Affairs (APSIA). Uchenna is also Advocacy Chair for the Pitt Policy Science Group and a Community Research Advisory Board (CRAB) Board member through The Center for Health Equity at The University of Pittsburgh Department of Public Health.
