It is with great sadness that the SCOPE team at the University of Pittsburgh School of Pharmacy, Program Evaluation and Research Unit (PERU), mourns the loss of Battalion Chief John Walsh. Chief Walsh was a dedicated leader and a steadfast protector of his community, whose selflessness and bravery left an indelible mark on those he served alongside and those he served.
Our thoughts are with his family, friends, and colleagues as they navigate this heartbreaking loss. We honor his life, his service, and the legacy he leaves behind. Through the work that we do, we are committed to continuing the mission of supporting first responders and the communities they serve.
Rest in peace, Chief Walsh.
Sincerely,
The SCOPE Team

To all of our First Responder partners throughout Pennsylvania, Ohio and beyond, thank you for all that you do for our communities each and everyday.
First responders remain often the only connection that a person who is struggling with Substance Use Disorder has with broader Recovery Oriented Systems of Care. We are committed to helping first responders strengthen that connection and equiping them with the education and tools needed for our communities.
Thank you for your service and know that you are in and thoughts and prayers each day.

🚨 URGENT ALERT: Altered Substances Detected 🚨
Pennsylvania residents! Recent samples of suspected fentanyl in Armstrong, Blair, Allegheny, and Cambria counties have been found to contain additional dangerous substances, including benzodiazepine analogs like Bromazolam.
These substances pose severe risks, including overdose and potentially fatal side effects. Although benzodiazepines do not respond to naloxone, the opioid reversal agent is still recommended for "benzo-dope" (combination of benzodiazepine and opioid) overdoses. Naloxone can help mitigate the dangerous synergy of combined drugs by neutralizing the effects of fentanyl.
We're happy to help support these communities and the rest of Pennsylvania in any way we can. Let's start a conversation.
In the meantime, spread the word to protect our communities.
Stay informed, stay safe!
