Starting seeds in water is a fun way to watch roots grow, and itβs something I like doing on a windowsill where I can keep an eye on them π±
π₯ Avocado is probably the most popular and one of the easiest to try
π Lemon and apple seeds can sprout, but Iβve found they take a little patience
π Peach and plum pits will grow, but they usually need more time than people expect
π Cherry seeds can sprout, but not every one will take
π Grape seeds are small but can still get going in the right conditions
π° Hazelnut and fig can root, though Iβve had mixed results with those
πΊ Passion flower is a fun one if you want something a little different
π Pomegranate seeds are easy to try and usually pretty quick
I change the water every few days and keep them in bright light. Just keep in mind, not all of these will turn into fruiting plants, but theyβre still fun to grow.

Light is usually key for plantsβbut **some vegetables actually germinate best in darkness** π±
Hereβs how darkness boosts early growth for common crops:
β’ **Tomatoes** β sprout in 5β7 days when kept warm and fully dark. Early light can **delay germination 3β5 days** and lower success rates.
β’ **Peppers** β emerge fastest in warm, dark conditions (7β10 days). Light too soon causes **uneven growth and slower sprouting**.
β’ **Onions** β 80β90% germination in darkness within 7β10 days. Light during germination can **delay emergence by up to a week**.
β’ **Peas** β cover seeds to keep them dark; germinate reliably in 7β14 days. Light-sensitive varieties may enter dormancy and **fail to sprout**.
β’ **Pumpkins** β sprout vigorously in 5β7 days under warm, dark conditions. Premature light exposure can **keep seeds dormant**.
β’ **Cucumbers** β fastest germination (3β7 days) occurs in complete darkness with warmth. Early light reduces both speed and overall germination percentage.
β¨ **Tip:** Keep these seeds covered and warm until tiny sprouts appear. Darkness during this stage **triggers rapid, uniform germination** πΏ

I'll be honest β when I first heard about "o***m lettuce," I was skeptical. But after researching wild lettuce (Lactuca virosa), I was genuinely surprised by its pain-relieving history and potential. [vBCYR]
