My visit to Fairfield University in Connecticut this morning brightened an otherwise overcast and dreary day! I was able to peek in on an Admitted Students Day, so I truly got a feeling for the incoming Freshmen Class! Students were eager to get to know each other and cheer on the The Stag in a pep rally style welcome. I could feel the school spirit and excitement all over campus- and even spied a “Grub Hub Robot” delivering food that no one but me seemed to think was funny! Fairfield is a private Jesuit University founded in 1942, with just over 4000 undergraduate students and about 1000 postgraduates. Close to major highways, Fairfield has good relationships with many neighboring Fortune 500 businesses that are easy to get to for internship purposes. Although the university has been test optional since 2010, admissions reps stress that students who do not submit test scores should take advantage of their interview process. Today’s visit to Vassar College was a whirlwind of excitement! Even in June, Vassar was bustling with eager minded undergraduate students there for summer research opportunities. Vassar is a Top Notch Liberal Arts College in Poughkeepsie, NY, known for its open curriculum, loads of academic flexibility and experiential learning. A thriving Organization Life, without the need for Greek Life, Vassar grads have an exceptionally high admit rate to Medical School, over 88%. Vassar’s admissions process is holistic, with standardized test scores being optional for the foreseeable future. Admissions reps stress that a strong Vassar application highlights WHO you are as a person, not just a list of your strengths. Their application has a “Your Space” option which is intended to give students a chance to express who they are apart from their accomplishments. Vassar College is need blind, meaning they don’t take your finances into account during the application process. There are no merit-scholarships available, only need-based aid.
