🌲 VOLUNTEERS NEEDED FOR TRAIL WORK! 🌲

The Pine-Strawberry Fuel Reduction Trail Crew will be back at work tomorrow, preparing Pine-Strawberry Trail 15 for the upcoming Fire on the Rim Mountain Bike Race and we would love your help!

Every cleared section and improved stretch of trail represents hours of hard work from volunteers who care deeply about our forest, our community and the riders who will soon take on the course.

🌲 Our work is being seen and we couldn’t be prouder.

A huge thank-you to Trevor from the Rim Country Mountain Bike Association for taking us along on his ride and sharing the beauty of the Buckshot Trail, the excitement surrounding Fire on the Rim, and the work Pine-Strawberry Fuel Reduction is doing throughout our community.

While Trevor shows us the finished trail, this video also gives you a look at the dedicated volunteers behind it clearing, digging, shaping and putting in the hours to create and maintain the trails our community gets to enjoy.

Between Trevor’s shoutout and the recent Payson Roundup article featuring our Trail Crew “Rock Stars,” more people are beginning to see the hard work happening behind the scenes and that recognition means so much to us.

🌲 TRAIL TUESDAY IS HERE! 🚵‍♀️🥾

Our volunteers are out there working on our trails today, and the work they’re doing has a much bigger purpose than simply creating a great place to hike, bike, run, or walk.

Well-maintained trails help connect our community to the forest, give residents and visitors access to the outdoors, and can also provide important access routes through areas that may otherwise be difficult to reach.

In the event of a wildfire, having established trails and maintained pathways can help firefighters and emergency crews move through forested areas more efficiently and reach places where access may be limited.

That means every hour spent clearing, building, and maintaining trails helps create a stronger trail system and a more prepared community. 🌲🔥

And of course, these trails are also here for all of us to enjoy whether you’re:

🚴 Mountain biking
🏃 Trail running
🐕 Walking with the dog
🌲 Or simply getting outside and enjoying the forest

🌲🔥 THE BRUSH PIT IS OPEN TOMORROW! 🔥🌲

The Pine–Strawberry Brush Pit will be open Sunday, August 9, from 8:00 AM to noon.

Bring your cut brush, tree limbs, weeds, leaves and pine needles for proper disposal. Clearing this material from around your home helps create defensible space, reduces available wildfire fuel and protects our entire community.

📍 Location: Control Road, approximately ¾ mile east of Highway 87
⏰ Hours: 8:00 AM–12:00 PM

The forest is not just the backdrop to Fire on the Rim. It is the reason for the ride.

On September 12, choose 15, 30 or 45 miles through Pine-Strawberry and help support wildfire-risk reduction and trail work in the place you are riding.

Ready Gila is Gila County’s emergency notification system. Residents should make sure they are registered and that their contact information is current so they can receive important local alerts and emergency instructions.

🔥 DOES YOUR FAMILY HAVE AN EXIT PLAN?

Packing a go bag is important but your family also needs to know exactly what to do when it is time to leave.

Before an emergency, sit down together and answer these questions:

📍 Where will everyone meet?
Choose a safe meeting place outside your neighborhood in case family members become separated or cannot return home.

🚗 Do you know more than one way out?
Identify your primary evacuation route and at least one alternate route in case roads are closed, blocked, or heavily congested.

⛽ Is your vehicle ready?
Keep enough fuel in your vehicle to leave without needing to stop during an evacuation.

🐾 Who is responsible for children and pets?
Make sure every family member understands their role, including who will grab medications, important documents, pet carriers, and the go bag.

📱 How will you communicate?
Choose an out-of-area contact everyone can call or text if local family members become separated.

Wildfires can move quickly. Do not wait until an evacuation notice arrives to figure out where you are going.

Make the plan. Practice the plan. And when officials say it is time to go leave early and follow all official evacuation instructions.

🔥 WHEN IT’S TIME TO GO, WILL YOUR GO BAG BE READY?

During a wildfire emergency, there may not be time to walk through the house deciding what to take. Having a prepacked emergency go bag can help your family leave more quickly and safely.

Your bag should include essentials such as:

💊 Prescription medications and a basic first-aid kit
📄 Copies of identification, insurance information and important records
📱 Phone chargers, portable battery packs and important phone numbers
🥤 Water and nonperishable food for each household member
👕 A change of clothing, sturdy shoes and personal-care items
🔦 Flashlights, batteries and a battery-powered radio
💵 Cash and credit cards in case ATMs or card systems are unavailable
🐾 Food, water, leashes, carriers and medications for your pets

Prepare enough basic supplies for up to 72 hours, and keep your bag somewhere that is easy to reach not buried in the back of a closet.

Check it regularly to replace expired food, update medications and make sure clothing still fits. Being prepared can save you a lot of time in the event of a wildfire.

Wildfire preparedness begins before smoke is in the air. Pack the bag now so that when officials say it is time to go, your family can focus on leaving safely.
