‼️Your presence matters. ✌If you live in Pike County or the City of Pikeville, KY, please attend tonight's City Commission Meeting at 6PM. The meeting is at City Hall, across from Chirico's Restaurant in downtown Pikeville, KY.

We need to become very familiar, very quickly, with how our local government works. You have two excellent reasons to start attending: 1) a potential data center and 2) November elections involving a new mayor.

No matter what county or city you live in in Appalachia, please start showing up. Your local government is making decisions ABOUT YOU, WITHOUT YOU every day.

‼️❌ YOUR BANK WILL NOT CALL YOU ASKING YOU FOR YOUR LOG-IN OR PASSWORD. Don't believe or respond to callers who ask for your personal info, not matter how convincing they might sound. If someone calls YOU and wants your social security number or banking log-in or anything personal, DO NOT GIVE IT TO THEM. Nine times out of ten, you will know something is wrong with your checking/savings account LONG BEFORE a scammer would. Listen to your gut -- if the call sounds weird, it probably is. ‼️Meetings of the Pikeville City Commission and the Pike County Fiscal Court should be of interest to ALL residents of Pike County/Pikeville. Here's one reason why:

If you live in the County or the City and make $60,000 a year working at PMC or UPike, $1,200 (2%) of your paycheck is given to the city of Pikeville every year.

Now, if you personally had to WRITE A CHECK to a random group of people for $1,200 every year, or if you had to cough up that $1,200 in cash every year and hand it to a group of people you barely knew, would you do so and just walk away, no questions asked? ... Doubt it. 🙃

You would want to know how your dollars were being spent. What was being purchased. Whose salaries it was paying. Which streets it was paving. Truth is, you can very easily have a say in how your money is spent. You just have to show up.

Whether you live in the County or the City, your tax dollars are hard-earned. You spend time away from your family so you can keep your kids in soccer uniforms and dinner on the table. If you had to carve out that $1,200 on your own every year, you would likely be far more concerned about what happens to it. Fortunately for you, however, our government slides that money right out of your paycheck before you have time to miss it. 😉

At the end of the day, we are all in this together. We need to blur the line between the City and the County. Afterall, we are ONE and this is HOME.

‼️If we keep voting in the same folks over and over and over again, there is no need for term limits. How can we get mad at Congress for not establishing term limits if we keep voting in the same people? It doesn't make sense.

If we don't attend local government meetings, we can't get mad when data centers and landfills and nuclear reactors/waste facilities show up in our communities. We can't get mad if we smell corruption. We can't get mad if certain players seem to be benefitting while others do not. The country and your county function at their best when YOU ARE INVOLVED. Period. Truth.

Would you let your family just make it on their own?
Would you let your business run itself?
Would you let your church limp along without any support?

Of course you wouldn't. YOUR GOVERNMENT IS NO DIFFERENT.

The best way to fight corruption is TO TRUST YOUR OWN EYES and TRUST YOUR OWN BRAIN. You don't need the television or social media to tell you what you're seeing or how to think. Do you own homework. Do your own research. Meet candidates. Get involved. ✌🤩🇺🇸

"I can barely hear anything they say; they don't sit close enough to their microphones and they talk too fast."

#1 QUESTION after every Fiscal Court or City Commission meeting:
"When are we allowed to ask questions??"

#1 COMMENT from our elected officials:
"Who are these strangers and why are they here?" (lol)

As We the People - you and me - begin attending meetings again and interacting with our elected leaders, there will be lots of learning on both sides. We, The People, will be learning about how government meetings work, the procedures that must be followed and how we fit into it all. Likewise, our elected officials will likely need to adapt to our presence. The meetings will no longer be discussions among themselves; they will hopefully turn into larger, informative, feedback-oriented meetings that The People ultimately guide.

One thing we will all need is a little patience, lol, but that's okay. We are all on the same team.
