♿ Wheelchair Wednesday: The Day My Tire Exploded 😂

Sometimes life in a wheelchair comes with frustrating moments. And sometimes it comes with moments that are just plain funny—at least once the embarrassment wears off!

On the first day of seventh grade, I was sitting in math class when suddenly there was a HUGE BANG!

Everyone jumped.

I jumped too.

Then I felt my wheelchair slowly sinking and realized… that was MY tire! 😳😂

My dad had filled my tires with air that morning, and by the afternoon, the heat caused the air to expand and one of them burst.

My face instantly turned bright red, but before long, the whole class—including me—was laughing. My math teacher never forgot it either. Whenever he saw me afterward, he would bring up the infamous exploding tire.

When you’ve used a wheelchair your whole life, you collect a lot of stories. Some are frustrating. Some teach you something. And some become memories you can laugh about years later.

Life with a disability isn’t always serious. Sometimes your wheelchair literally makes an entrance for you. 😂♿

What’s an embarrassing moment from your childhood that you can laugh about now?

💔 Rest in Peace, Dolly Parton 💔

This one hurts.

Dolly Parton was so much more than a country music legend. She was a songwriter, actress, businesswoman, philanthropist, and someone who seemed to bring a little bit of light wherever she went.

I always admired that beneath the big hair, sparkle, humor, and incredible talent was a woman with a huge heart. Through her Imagination Library, she helped put books into the hands of millions of children. She showed that success and kindness can go hand in hand.

Her music became part of people’s lives — songs about love, heartbreak, working hard, dreaming big, and remembering where you came from.

Today the world feels a little less sparkly.

Rest peacefully, Dolly. Thank you for the music, the laughter, the generosity, and the example you gave us. Your legacy will live on for generations. ❤️🙏

What is your favorite Dolly Parton song or memory?

Teacher Tuesday 🍎

One thing I learned long before I became a teacher is that students remember how a classroom makes them feel.

As a child with cerebral palsy, some of my best teachers found simple ways for me to participate instead of focusing on what I couldn’t do. Those moments stayed with me.

Years later, when I became a teacher, I carried those lessons into my own classroom.

Inclusion doesn’t always require something complicated. Sometimes it means changing the way an assignment is done, finding another way for a student to participate, or simply making sure every student knows, You belong here.

The best teachers don’t just teach the lesson. They make room for every student to be part of it. ❤️

What is something a teacher did that you still remember today?

🍌🍨 Happy National Banana Split Day! 🍨🍌

Sometimes happiness really is as simple as a banana, a few scoops of ice cream, whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and a cherry on top. 🍒

Life gives us plenty of serious days, so I think we should take advantage of the silly, sweet ones too. Find something today that makes you smile—even if it comes covered in hot fudge. ❤️

Now the important question…

What’s going on YOUR banana split?
🍫 Chocolate?
🍓 Strawberry?
🍍 Pineapple?
🥜 Nuts?
🍒 Extra cherries?

I’m definitely not skipping the chocolate! 😂

My son goes back to school next week. He wanted to hang out with me and we had a nice day. He is building trains and big on playing the piano. I love hearing him play. I got to see two of my caregivers/friends too. My van needed $450 worth of work. Having an accessible van stinks because they always break down! Do you have a vehicle that always breaks down?? It’s beyond frustrating. Let me know in the comments!
