Practicing Svadhyaya, the fourth Niyama (personal observance) in yoga philosophy, which means “self-study” or “study of the self.” It involves deep reflection on one’s behaviors, habits, thoughts, and emotions to understand the true, higher Self rather than the ego. Spending time to dive deeper into yourself, allows for a more enjoyable life.
Practices:
~mindful observation
~reflection on habits
~study of sacred texts(Bhagavad Gita)
~intention
~self-injury
Benefits:
~increased self-awareness
~emotional regulation
~personal evolution

Changing my perspective

Yoga appreciation post 🧘🏼‍♀️

There’s so many reasons why I keep finding my way back onto my yoga mat. I love the way I feel when I’m in a challenging posture, I feel accomplished, driven, strong, and in touch with myself. I love the community yoga has encourage me to be apart of. The friends and chosen family that yoga has brought into my life, I will forever be grateful for. Showing up on my mat encourages me to explore parts of myself I hadn’t met before. Yoga has taught me to get to know myself deeply as well as others in my life, as we are all connected. Yoga makes me question my habits, my thoughts, where I put my energy, and what is important to me. Yoga isn’t just simply doing asanas, it’s a lifestyle. Yoga isn’t just movement, it’s a feeling.

Hands-On-Hatha Workshop Reflection:

As I dive deeper into my yoga practice and grow as a teacher my focus has become less on how yoga should look but rather I’ve shifted my focus to how it should feel.
do not use the body to get into a pose. We use the pose to get into our body -Bernie Clark

This posture clinic was centered around that concept- feeling, not performing. Every single body is different and there is so much power in that. Lora and I spent time tapping into the differences of each yogi’s body and offering cues that suit their individual needs and limits. Creating a safe place to practice yoga in a way that their bodies felt good while still receiving maximum benefits.

Some mantras from that night:
~be in your body. Pay attention, practice mindfully
~move your body like you’re listening, not performing
~how you feel is important

The practice of yoga is a great way to check in with yourself. Listening to your breath, body, and letting that guide you. Not the expectations you’ve put on yourself. Check in with your mental, physical, spiritual health. Checking in instead of using this practice to check out is the key to unlocking that mind to body connection. Our bodies are always talking to ourselves, we just need to tap in and listen.

Thank you to every yoga and joined Lora and I, you made it possible to share some fun yoga knowledge. Thank you to Costello Art Studio for allowing us to use your beautiful space. I feel honored to have guided such a beautiful group for two hours. Thank you, thank you, thank you!!!

thread the needle 🪡🤍

your spine called — it needs this pose desperately
this gentle spinal twist melts tension from your shoulders, neck, and the space between your shoulder blades. it’s the reset your body has been asking for
a few cues to sink in:
→ let your shoulder and ear melt to the mat
→ keep your hips still — let the twist live in your upper back
→ breathe into your ribcage and just… let go 🌬️ don’t force,
soft, slow, healing. 🧘‍♀️✨
