Some of the holsters I make.
Hello all! With the holiday soon to be upon us many are considering buying a handgun for themselves or their loved ones, they make great gifts, but there are some things to consider before investing in a firearm for yourself or someone else. I have had so many men and women in my classes over the years who have bought guns that were either too uncomfortable to use or just did not fit them. Something to consider when selecting one is the level of experience and ability to handle/fire the handgun you are looking at. Many salesman will recommend a snub nosed light weight revolver for carry, now this is not necessarily a bad choice, however keep in mind the lighter the gun the more felt recoil it will pass on to the user. Also, many people are either not strong enough or not comfortable with the long and often heavy double-action trigger pull. On the other hand cocking a hammer for single action to use in a defensive situation is not always a good idea, especially with adrenaline flowing! Now, if you do choose a lightweight revolver, plan on practicing with it often, starting with low recoiling target rounds and working up to more powerful defensive ammunition before electing to carry it. One extra thing to think about is how you are going to carry it as this will also affect your choice in regards to size. Many people don't realize that with the proper holster to match your lifestyle you can carry a 4inch barrel revolver which in terms of controllability and power has a short barreled revolver beat hands down. If possible, before buying a handgun find a range that rents them and try a few different ones to see which fits you and that you shoot best with. This can save you time, money and frustration. If you have any questions please feel free to reach out to me and I'll try help. Take care and stay safe- Rudy
