This year marks the 40th anniversary of the Brown Road Water Treatment Plant treating Colorado River water for Mesa residents.
For four decades, the plant has helped support Mesa’s growth by providing safe, reliable drinking water to the community. As Mesa has grown through the years, the plant has expanded to meet residents’ needs.
When the plant began operations, it treated 24 million gallons of water per day (mgd). In 1993, the plant completed its first expansion, increasing treatment capacity to 48 mgd. A second expansion in 2003 increased capacity again to 72 mgd.
What started with just a handful of employees operating the plant in its early days has grown into a team of 16 full-time employees working around the clock to ensure Mesa residents have safe, treated water ready to drink every day.
