Berries in Wonderland

I’m still practicing my hand at spray paints/ merging my styles so it’s consistent but had fun overall. I don’t really put my characters out anywhere so this was a breath of fresh air for me to express some creative freedom. The challenging parts I’m glad to learn was how close to be to the walls, can angles, cutbacks, making do with the paints I got and just letting go of control over how things come out. Having fun with this was what matters most to me.
Thank you “JUST” Giovannie 🇯🇲 for the wisdom shared and opening your space for artists to practice!

Back for another round at with my girl Buns n’ her Blyph Berry. I’ll post more about em but here’s some pieces for now. I might bring some stickers and just draw next time and learn so I don’t end up wasting all my paint 😂

“Long Live Nip”
Acrylic on 16x20” in canvas

I’ll never forget how dark LA felt when everyone got the news Nipsey was no longer with us, kinda the same feeling of losing Michael Jackson. No one was expecting it and the way he went out was awful. The following week, Nipsey murals spawned across Crenshaw and many people flew from out the state to visit the memorial set up in front of The Marathon store. Yes, people from the coldest part of the country came to the hood to pay their respects. But you can tell how much love was present for this man there. After his funeral service on TV, I made sure to rush back home (back when I lived off of Crenshaw) to see him run his final lap before being put to rest. It was a historical day that I’ll never forget. The painting I made of him was dropped off at the memorial and quickly left the day after (yes I was young and silly). Not sure if it was stolen or if it went to his family respectfully but I wanted to share the love that this man has given to our neighborhood was reciprocated in the best way possible. I pray that his family continuous thrive. He’s done so much for a hood we could never forget. Long live Nipsey, 8/15/85-3/31/19 🕊️
