I hate having to say goodbye to these two. Jessica and Sonja have helped bring me so much peace this year with their reliability, honesty, and authenticity.

First Sonja on the left: Sonja began riding a few years ago with me and took to horses like a natural. Her dedication to growth in horsemanship and her work ethic, landed her opportunities in my barn as a working student and assistant trainer. I don't have enough space to express my pride and appreciation for her. Watching her skills and capabilities grow has been one of the greatest joys in my recent years of horsemanship. She is leaving to go to college in Tuscon now and I know that she will excel in anything does. Thank you, Sonja.

We made behavioral enrichment for the horses in Horsemanship Class today!

Today the students made some "behavioral enrichment" for the horses in Horsemanship Class. We put edible items into a mould and added some tasty liquids that will be frozen. The horses will get some yummy frozen treats next time they finish their lesson to help them keep cool and happy. It's fun to spend time together and learn about horse care and handling.

This is Mary, an adult student on her first ride out of the roundpen today. The next stage for a beginner student after learning their independent seat at walk/trot/posting trot & canter (without reins) in the roundpen is to begin "Guide & Go" class where they will learn how to use their body aids and focus to guide their horse. Students begin to learn the feel and timing that it takes to gain the body control of the horse and a working partnership. This is also the time when we learn and practice emergency stops. The summer is heating up but it hasn't slowed us down in MM Horsemanship Academy. We're enjoying early lesson times with our summer schedule and have also opened up another weekday for the increase in students on summer break! Today we had "Level-Up" Graduation and Potluck for Academy students and their families. It was a blast! I'm so proud of their hard work and growth this year! Here's to more success and fun in 2025 :D MM Horsemanship Academy's first year has been such a success!

Liberty Lessons are available too!

Carla and Captain had a really good liberty lesson today. It's great to see the growth and progress of this partnership. Carla is dedicated to practicing and it shows. To me, liberty is a language that we learn to speak with the horse based on body language and mutual connection. It's really cool to see when it begins to come together. You can enjoy a horse even if you can't ride! Liberty is a good way to spend time with the horse on the ground. Had a really fun lesson today with my awesome working student on the Egyptian Stallion. It's nice to see how a horses training has shaped up by having another rider take them for a spin. Also I love me a "good corner" well executed (see video) ;) Seeing the growth of the horses and students really makes my day.
