If your child with ADHD has a propensity to be inflexible, uncooperative, or if they're like my son and say "No" to anything new or unfamiliar, this video is for you.
The most common problem I see in families of kids with ADHD is what I refer to as "high giving/low expectations". This is when parents give and give, and privileges are treated as entitlements owed to the child, rather than as something earned by meeting daily expectations.
What commonly accompanies "high giving/low expectations" is that the child with ADHD is treated as if they are fragile and incapable, when the reality is they are "anti-fragile" and highly capable; however, they may be resistant to having to put effort into uninteresting things.
In the ADHD Dude Parent Behavior Training sequence for your child's age, you will learn how to increase cooperation in your home by having daily expectations in place, spread throughout the day for your child to earn their "currency" (screen time, a special toy, game time with you, etc.)
We create expectations for behavior/cooperation and helping around the house. In many cases, we also create daily expectations for how family members should be treated.
When your child has daily expectations in place to earn their currency, they feel useful, learn how capable they are, and behavior, cooperation, and emotional regulation improve at home
Our Parent Behavior Training is designed for busy, working parents and includes the ADHD Dude app so you can listen to the content while you're driving, exercising, etc. See the course sequence for your child's age in the comments section below.
