What an inspiring morning! Educators, school leaders, parents, state departments and community members from across Arizona gathered today to screen the powerful film followed by a panel discussion from literacy experts here in AZ. What started out as an idea with the to bring folks together on the providing resources on the Science of Reading led to such a special space to take a hard look at illiteracy in the US and in AZ. 1 in 4 adults in AZ is functionally illiterate. Only 41% of 3rd graders in AZ meet state reading proficiency standards. AND WE KNOW HOW TO CHANGE THIS. We just need to get the word out and continue to align to what works in reading instruction. And when we start to connect on literacy in broader community, we help carve a brighter future for students and families. Let’s do better for Arizona children together.
