Truly devastating for our communities.
The school board is voting to close Phoenicia Elementary TONIGHT. Yes, you read that correctly.
They added it to the publicly-posted agenda for tonight's meeting just this morning, at the last possible moment, hoping folks wouldn't notice.
We noticed.
If the vote passes, which we expect it will based on past comment by the board's current members, Phoenicia will close after the 2023-2024 school year.
What's more, the resolution aims to centralize all elementary students at Bennett by the start of the 2028 school year, meaning Woodstock would close after 2027-2028.
Even worse: they're attempting to ram this through before the upcoming school board election on May 16! With some seats at risk, they want to pass it now.
Are you outraged? We are. Utterly irresponsible behavior from our elected officials who are flat-out ignoring the public will against doing this, confirmed by their very own survey!
Ask yourself: what is their motivation for closing schools? Why are they so steadfast, so unwilling to listen to public opinion on this issue? Why are they refusing to obtain rough cost estimates on the TENS OF MILLIONS OF DOLLARS of renovation costs needed to centralize at Bennett? Why the rush?
We will not allow this to happen. Show up at the board meeting tonight at 6pm at Woodstock Elementary and speak your mind. Tell them how you feel; don't hold back! Tell everyone you know.
Share this post far and wide. Vote the current board members OUT on May 16.
