💡 Wisdom Wednesday - College Visits (Part 2)

From Linda Hollenback of Hollenback Consulting 👇

🧠 Wisdom:
“Go beyond the tour to make the most of college visits.”

👉 Take Action (Teens):
Research professors and research centers in the department(s) you’re interested in. Reach out to ask if you can visit after your Admissions tour to learn about their work and undergraduate opportunities.

For many teens, this time of year begins the process of planning courses for the next school year. When considering your teens choices, consider the following:

1) Challenge within reason: Colleges want students to challenge themselves, but they also don't want students who are burned out upon arrival.

- There is no magic number of APs or Honors required. The key is honest conversations with your teen -and- between your teen and their teachers.

- When options are limited or when looking to balance, take AP and Honors in courses that align to their current interests. For example, if your teen likes Business, consider Math & Economics; Health Science - choose Chemistry & Biology; Engineering - Math & Physics are key.

2) Be sure to build in something fun! If your teen has a very heavy extracurricular schedule, a study period may be necessary for time management. However, when possible, choose an elective to bring balance to academic rigor.

Encourage your teen to choose something for personal growth, for the love of it, or to challenge themselves to expand with something they know little about but find curious.

3) Know important dates: Especially for students challenging themselves with extra accelerated, honors, AP or IB courses, be sure to mark the calendar with school deadlines for making schedule changes (e.g. - dropping from AP to Honors).

Hello friends. I haven't been on here much lately. I promise to do better this year.

I'll reintroduce myself soon, but in the meantime, I thought I'd start by sharing my Word of the Year for 2026.

My word is TRUST.

This year, I commit to:
Trust myself.
Trust my intuition.
Trust that things always work out for me.
Trust that I am powerful.
Trust that I can, do, and will serve others well, and with love.
Trust and surrender, allowing peace to guide me.

For this Year of the Fire Horse, I will make progress towards living life fully and unapologetically. I will trust and take steps forward in alignment with my highest self and for bringing my gifts to this world.

Most importantly, I trust that this year will be amazing. And just as I tell my high school seniors when they are in this period of anxious anticipation as they wait for college decisions, I will remain confident and trust that I will end up exactly where I am meant to be. 💜
