Hey fellow service-oriented business owners!
I'm learning A LOT from George Kao's approach to authentic marketing & program development.
Here's a great blog post on the topic...
What to think about before launching your own online course
As I prepare to update my Authentic Course Launches training, I’d like to clear up a major myth, as well as share the 5 pieces to think about if you’re interested in launching your own courses.

One of my coaches Justin Haaheim used to tell me, "It takes the most courage to do the things you've been putting off."
I'm especially good at justifying NOT doing something that's freaking me out by doing something still important but much more comfortable. For example, designing an automated registration process for my coaching group ( ) instead of ACTUALLY INVITING PEOPLE. Sure, that process will help me in the long run, but not if I never ask anyone to use it!
I have a whole chorus of worries and doubts about inviting people to my group or asking them to invite their friends: "they won't get it", "they'll get annoyed at me for trying to 'sell' them something", "I won't know what to say", "I'll actually have to run the group if people register and that's even scarier!". Sound familiar? We all have thoughts like that when we're doing something important in new territory.
I noticed those thoughts weren't going away, and in fact they snowballed, the longer I put off making the calls I needed to make. Putting my energy on other "important tasks" made it worse and even lead to frustration because I wasn't doing what was actually the most important and authentic thing to do. I was just making room for the worries to grow bigger and bigger. Making calls takes enough courage on its own, and here I was making an even bigger mountain out of it!
Once I noticed that my worries and doubts were driving my actions/inactions instead of ME driving, I asked myself, "What am I more interested in: bargaining with my worries and doubts or MAKING THE DAMN CALLS so I can actually connect directly with people who would probably be delighted to receive my invitation?"
I made the calls, sent the emails, and it went great. I'm glad I have a smooth registration process, but even more glad that the seats in my group are almost full! ... and it didn't have to be a struggle like I was making it out to be! In fact, completing the calls freed up all that energy I was spending worrying about making the calls to be put toward other important things.
Bottom line: If you know you need to do something, and you're putting it off because you have "so much other work to do", take a deep breath and DO THE THING. You already have all the courage you need. No need to muster any more.
