Genetic research to promote healthier, happier lives of dogs. 🐩🧬👁 A canine genetics group at PennVet. 🐾

Hi everyone! I’m Dr. Elizabeth Greif and I’m a postdoctoral researcher working with veterinary ophthalmologist and geneticist Dr. Gustavo Aguirre at PennVet. Our team is studying the genetic risk factors of coloboma 🧬👁️ and we are hoping for your help! 💫 We are recruiting rough and smooth collies who have had eye exams by board-certified veterinary ophthalmologists and have a choroidal hypoplasia or coloboma (CEA) genetic test result. If this sounds like your dog, please email me your dog’s three-generation pedigree (to [email protected]) and I can check your dog's relatedness to already enrolled dogs (we are prioritizing unrelated dogs)! Participation involves a one-time blood draw by your veterinarian/vet technician. Big thanks to current enrollees and to the Collie Health Foundation for funding this research. ❤️🐾 Also email or message me if you have questions 🐾❤️

Hi everyone, welcome to our page! We are a research group from the University of Pennsylvania’s School of Veterinary Medicine studying canine inherited eye and other diseases. 🐶🧬❤️ The goal of our page is to share our research with the community! From a simple cheek swab or one-time blood draw, we can extract DNA and perform genetic analyses to identify variants contributing to disease.✨Below is our most recent publication, where we discovered a genetic variant associated with non-syndromic Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA) in a family of Labrador Retrievers. Check out the paper in the link below!✨
