Preparation for Pre-K and Kindergarten

Mathematics education has changed considerably over the past decade. Expanding from the singularly focused deficits-based comparisons of Whites and non-Whites to mathematical excellence, brilliance occurs despite less than desirable academic conditions. The field now addresses how diverse populations are an untapped resource to address the future industrial and technological demands which will continue to increase as “smart technology” moves beyond its infancy. There are opportunities to reach this resource however more empowering resources such as college preparatory programs and other out-of-school programs that increase minority student college aspirations.
