Day Three: The Steps to Following Jesus

“What should I do first?”
"Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest". Matthew 11:28.
Jesus wants us to come to Him the way a little child comes to a loving parent. In Luke Chapter 18 verses 17-18. Jesus called for the children, saying, "Let the little children come to me and do not try to stop them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. I tell you the truth, whoever does not receive the kingdom of God like a child will never enter it." In Luke 10:21 on that same occasion Jesus rejoiced in the Holy Spirit and said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and intelligent, and revealed them to little children. Yes, Father, for this was your gracious will.”

A child is unable to deceive. They don't know how. So, Jesus wants us to be non-deceiving people, children of the light, and non-threatening. No one was afraid of Jesus. He was non-threatening. God uses the foolish to confound the wise.

In Matthew chapter 18 verses 2-4 Jesus called a little child unto him, and set him in the midst of them, and said, "Verily (truly) I say unto you, except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven". Jesus wants us to humble ourselves like a little child, He wants us to be completely transparent, totally honest about who we are, and what we are. Jesus wants us to have complete and total trust and faith in Him to provide for all our needs just like a little child trusts and depends upon his/her parents to meet all their needs. We are to have childlike faith and trust in Jesus.

In John chapter 3 verses 1-8, Jesus is talking to Nicodemus a religious leader of the Jews and Jesus is teaching him about what he must do to get to heaven. Let’s read what Jesus says. 1 There was a man of the Pharisees, named Nicodemus, a ruler of the Jews: 2 The same came to Jesus by night, and said unto him, Rabbi, we know that thou art a teacher come from God: for no man can do these miracles that thou doest, except God be with him. 3 Jesus answered and said unto him, “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” 4 Nicodemus saith unto him, how can a man be born when he is old? can he enter the second time into his mother's womb, and be born? 5 Jesus answered, “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, except a man be born of water and [of] the Spirit, he cannot enter into the kingdom of God. 6 That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit. 7 Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again. 8 The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.”

Here Jesus is saying that we must be born again, in other words, we must have a radical conversion, cleansing, and spiritual transformation by the Spirit of God. So, we have the new birth by the Spirit of God that allows us to become children of God, and the attitude of a little child to follow Jesus and to have complete and total trust and faith in Jesus. It is so interesting that Jesus uses these examples of becoming like little children and being born again like a new child to teach us what must do to enter the Kingdom of God and become citizens of the Kingdom.

So, day three, what should you do first:
1. We are to have childlike faith and trust in Jesus.
2. We must be born again-we must have a radical conversion, cleansing, and spiritual transformation by the Spirit of God.

Let’s Pray. Dear God, you are truly the Almighty, All Powerful, All Knowing, and omnipresent (present everywhere at the same time) God. You are the creator of all things in Heaven, on Earth, and in the Sea. You are our creator and we thank you for all things. Dear Lord, forgive us of our sins and give us the hearts to forgive those who sin against us, just like we are forgiven by You. God, we pray that your will, not our will be done here on earth as it is in Heaven. God, we pray that You would continue to make Your presence known to us by Your Holly Spirit, that You would provide us with all that we need, and that You would continue to provide us with Your protection.
God, we pray that You would bind the power of evil over us here on earth, and that You would teach us, lead, guide and direct us in everything that we do, say, and think. We thank You for Your word and we pray that the Holy Spirit would teach us what You would have us to know and that You would give us the wisdom to do it. Thank You for our Lord and Savior Jesus. We give all the Glory and Honor to You for everything. In Jesus Name we Pray! Amen!

Day One: The Steps to Following Jesus:
What can I expect on my journey?
"He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Philippians 1:6

Be confident in the fact that The Bible says that whatever happens to you in your life here on earth that Jesus is with you. He promised: “I will never leave you nor forsake you” So we can say with confidence, "The Lord is my helper, and I will not be afraid. What can man do to me?"
- Hebrews 13:5-6

Trust in The Lord, believe in Him, and by faith hold on to His promises. In Hebrews 13:5, Jesus promises that He will never leave you nor forsake you. In Romans 8:28, the Bible says: "And we know that all things work together for good for those who love God, who are called according to his purpose, 29 because those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, that his Son would be the firstborn among many brothers and sisters."

You know that often times things that seem bad right now turn out to be good latter on. Things that are happening to us right now, things that we don't understand, and we ask why is this happening to me now? Why is God allowing this to happen? Remember Romans 8:28, "All things work together for good for those who love God". God can take what is happening to you right now and use it for good latter on in your life. Have faith and stand firm in your life in Christ and He will take this junk and use it for good in His time.

We must remain faithful to the work that God will do in our lives. It is difficult but the reward will be great. Eternal Life in Heaven!! The lust of our flesh (the desire to put our bodies desires first) and the pride of life (wanting all the things that the world flashes before us) is attractive and seems to be the thing to do.
But the Bible teaches us the opposite. Romans 12:2: "Do not be conformed to this present world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, so that you may test and approve what is the will of God - what is good and well-pleasing and perfect."

Study and Seek God daily.
2 Timothy 2:15: Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.

Talk to God in Prayer daily.
Luke 11:9-13: "So I tell you: Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and the door will be opened for you.
10 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened.
11 What father among you, if your son asks for a fish, will give him a snake instead of a fish?
12 Or if he asks for an egg, will give him a scorpion?
13 If you then, although you are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will the heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask him!"

Do these things and expect that God will begin to work in you and transform you into the image of His Son Jesus.

Expect a journey because it is a process to be transformed into the image of Jesus and we have a long way to go. We will never be perfect in these bodies but someday when we depart from these tents, our earthly bodies (our temporary homes), then we will receive our heavenly bodies, and we will see Jesus as He is, and we will be just like Him. Wow what a promise. It makes me cry when I see and think of people that I know who are here living in "broken" bodies and they have all sort of illness, diseases, and defects, but someday if we all accept Him, and have Jesus as our Lord we will be just like Him. 1 John 3:2 says, "Dear friends, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet been revealed. We know that whenever it is revealed we will be like Him, because we will see him just as he is."

The Apostle Paul spoke of this transformation in:
Philippians 3:13-14
13 Brethren, I do not count myself to have apprehended; but one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead,
14 I press toward the goal for the prize of the upward call of God in Christ Jesus.

Expect a life long journey and press toward the goal of the excellence of the knowledge of Jesus Christ in you, and you living in Christ.

Let's pray together,
I pray in the name of Jesus that God will give us the ability to read or hear His word and fill us with the knowledge that is in His word, and give us the wisdom to apply His word in our lives and share it with others. May the Holy Spirit teach us and lead, guide, and direct us in all that we do, say, and think. Dear Lord we thank you for all things. Thank You for Your presence, Your provision, and your protection.
In Jesus name we pray. Amen!

The Steps to Following Jesus

Prelude: The Steps to Following Jesus:

If you could choose to follow anyone and to become like that person. Who would you choose to follow?

David Platt, Pastor and Author wrote,"It is impossible to be a disciple or a follower of someone and not end up just like that person." So if you follow a person closely, do the things that they do, say the things that they say, think like they think, if you strive to live like that person, if you could follow that person everywhere that they go, if you could imitate that person, and follow in their steps, you could not help but to become like that person. In Luke 6:40, Jesus said, A disciple (follower) is not above his teacher, but everyone when he is fully trained will be like his teacher." The whole point of being a follower of Jesus: is to imitate Him, following His example, carrying on His ministry, making more followers (duplication), and ultimately becoming like Him in the process.

So given that information, Who would you choose to follow and become like? For the next 101 days, if you choose to do so, we will follow in the steps of Jesus. The Key Verse for this study is 1 Peter 2:21, The Apostle Peter wrote, by the inspiration of The Holy Spirit, "For to this you were called, since Christ also suffered for you, leaving an example for you to follow in His steps."

Psychologist, behavior specialists, and other experts tell us that if you do anything, good or bad, for thirty days that thing you do becomes a habit. Originally, I set out to lead and write a Bible Study, for new believers or new followers of Jesus for thirty days, but when I got to thirty days, I realized that we had only scratched the surface of the steps to following Jesus. And, after 101 days, I realized that there is no way to complete a study of the steps to following Jesus, so I came to the conclusion by the inspiration of the Holy Spirit that it was time to conclude the 'textbook' study and writing about 'The Steps to Following Jesus', and to start the practice or active process of walking the walk of following in the steps of Jesus. James said, "show me your works. and I will show you your faith." Peter said, "therefore be ye doers of the word and not hearers only." So I look forward to continuing to send these Steps to Following Jesus out by email, text message, and social media, but it is also time to Go back out on the streets, and go from door to door to follow in the steps of Jesus.

It is time to Go and proclaim the Truth of the Gospel Message, to make other followers, teaching them to obey all the commandments of Jesus, Baptizing them in the name of The Father, The Son, and The Holy Spirit. So I Go with the confidence that I am not alone, that I don't have to depend upon my own talents, abilities, and knowledge, because The Bible says in the conclusion to Matthew 28 in verse 20: "And remember, I (Jesus) am with you always, even to the end of the age."

If you are just beginning 'The Steps to Following Jesus', I pray that you would prayerfully consider these Bible scriptures and teachings, and prove these things out for yourselves. Each person working out their own salvation, through faith in the Grace of God, given to each one of us as a gift from God by and through The Lord Jesus Christ. Pay close attention to, and read closely the Words of Jesus. Combine this study with a systematic reading of the Bible, taking time each day to talk to God in prayer, practice loving others as we love ourselves, do something for others each day without expecting anything in return, look for those who have the least and do something for them. Be others centered, serve those who are needy, give to those who the world has forgotten. Give freely of your time, attention, and love.

Give others a smile, encouragement, a gentile touch, and speak to those who others do not. Be a friend to someone who has few if any friends. By doing these things, others will see that you are different from most other people, and they will ask what is the hope that you have in you that makes you different from others, and then you can share your faith and love for Jesus. Let others see Christ in you, because: "For to this you were called, since Christ also suffered (and died) for you, leaving an example for you to follow in His steps." May God Bless you and keep you. May you be blessed by God with all His spiritual blessings, and day by day, I pray that you will be conformed into the image of God's Son, The Lord Jesus Christ, as you Walk in The Steps of Jesus, and as you become a doer of the Word and not a hearer only.

I pray all these things for you in the power that is in name of Jesus. Amen!
