Rosenwald Schools were a pivotal part of the early 20th century Black history, lauded as transformative force that built 5,000 schools for rural African American children in the South, providing equality in education by narrowing the educational gap, boosting literacy, fostering community, and educating leaders like John Lewis and Maya Angelou through an iconic partnership between Booker T. Washington and Julius Rosenwald. Today less than 10% of the Rosenwald Schools remain.
