Meet Todor “Toby” Karamoutchev ’26, a former baseball student-athlete who turned his passion for innovation into an emerging technology business before even leaving campus. While balancing full course loads and athletics, Toby paired up with fellow student Bogdan Stere (men’s soccer) to teach themselves AI development, ultimately launching Vertical AI Labs—a company that creates custom artificial intelligence tools to help businesses automate processes and grow efficiently.

Reflecting on how the company evolved while on campus, Toby shares: “We realized that 80 percent of the work we were doing was using new emerging technologies. I was in baseball and Bogdan was in soccer, so it was a lot to balance with classes four days a week, but we fully dedicated ourselves to learning.”
