FASNACHT COCKTAIL - Happy Fasnacht Day
Fasnacht Day is an annual Pennsylvania Dutch celebration that falls on Shrove Tuesday, the day before Ash Wednesday. The word translates to "Fasting Night" in English. The tradition is to eat the very best foods, which are part of the German tradition, and lots of it, before the Lenten fast.
FOR THE COCKTAIL:
• 1.5-2 oz cake-flavored vodka (I used Pinnacle Cake)
• 1 oz creme de cacao
• 1/2 oz simple syrup
• A few drops vanilla extract (to taste)
• 3 oz half and half
• Donut holes, for garnish
• Vanilla glaze, for rim (recipe follows)
• Sprinkles, for rim
FOR THE GLAZE:
• 1 cup confectioner’s sugar
• 2-3 tablespoons milk
• 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1. Make the glaze by mixing all of the ingredients in a shallow, wide bowl. If too thin, add a bit more confectioner’s sugar. If too thick, add a bit more milk. Once desired consistency is reached, Dip the rim of your glass into the glaze to coat. Flip rim-side up and set down, allowing the glaze to drip a bit. Wait 1 minute, and then dip into the sprinkles. Flip rim side up again and let dry.
2. Pour all of the liquid cocktail ingredients into a shaker filled with ice. Shake well, and then strain the cocktail into the glass.
3. Poke a hole in a doughnut hole with a straw and pull the doughnut hole down a few inches from the tip of the straw. Remove the bit of stuck doughnut from the inside of the straw (using the prong of a fork, if necessary) and serve.

Labor Day Cocktail
RED, WHITE AND BLUE SANGRIA
Love this recipe for a patriotic holiday...
INGREDIENTS:
2 bottles dry white wine (Sauvignon Blanc is good)
1 cup triple sec
1/2 cup berry-flavored vodka
1/2 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
1/2 cup simple syrup (see tips below)
1 cup blueberries
1 1/2 cups hulled and sliced strawberries
1 cup raspberries
1 1/2 cups pineapple chunks
DIRECTIONS:
Combine all ingredients in a large punch bowl or pitcher and stir well. Cover and refrigerate at least 4 hours.
Serve well-chilled with a good scoop of fruit floating in each drink, or serve over ice.
TIPS:
To make 1/2 cup simple syrup, boil 1/2 cup water and add 1/2 cup granulated white sugar. Turn heat to simmer and stir until dissolved. Turn off the heat and let cool. Now it's simple syrup!
Use fresh fruit for this recipe. Frozen just won't be great.
To make star-shaped pineapple pieces, cut long & wide pieces of pineapple off the side of the fresh fruit. use a star cutter to cut shapes.
