Our Head of School, Michelle Holland sat down with Liz Hofreuter, Executive Director of PAIS, to share with her more about her own background and philosophies.
Michelle spoke to how independent education elevates the teaching profession. Michelle specifically spoke of the purposeful choice of Seussical Jr. from our middle school thespians. How it also reflects our daily mission at GSFS to help students listen to their light of integrity, be people who love our community and cultivate the gifts they can bring to our world.

Earth Day around our campus today was alive with curiosity, care and connection! 🌱
Grounded in Indigenous teachings and respect for the land, students took moments to explore our outdoor spaces like our incredible Tree Lab.🌱
There were hands in the soil, sticks being used to move stagnant water, eyes spotting pollinators, hands helping to clean up waste, mouths expressing wonder at a giant earthworm and so much more! 🌱
Gratitude for these moments rooted in hope, stewardship, and responsibility. 🌱
Gratitude for space to appreciate the beauty of this rainy spring day and to reflect on how we can honor and protect the world around us every day.🌱

Spring is officially here and in full bloom! 🌼
Nevertheless, we are reminded that without winter…that season of stillness, there’s no real spring. No renewal, no bloom, no reminder that change is always working beneath the surface.
When things feel quiet or uncertain it can be our community that carries us through. The joy of being in intentional spaces together these past few months gave us endurance.
Spring always comes. It just hits differently when you didn’t get there alone.
From roller skating fundraisers to ski trips at Blue Mountain, core GSFS memories were created. Even on the shortest days, our community went strong. 🌱

We are so grateful to everyone who helped to make the mutual aid market a big success! From those who donated, to those who volunteered their organizing skills, to everyone who showed up-you made this possible!
What a beautiful reminder that when we are we can show up for each other in meaningful and powerful ways. Here’s to more moments with spaces of care, connection and shared resources!

THIS SATURDAY! Friends Mutual Aid Market at Greene Street Friends School. Open to the community and general public!
On Saturday, April 11, from 9AM to Noon, GSFS will host our first Friends Mutual Aid Market!
Inspired by the Germantown Community Fridge and their mantra “take what you need, leave what you can,” and in the spirit of many “Buy Nothing” community groups, the Friends Mutual Aid Market will feature an open marketplace of goods that are freely available. Gently used goods include sports equipment, household items, small furniture, toys, clothing, shoes, etc. Cash donations for the Germantown Fridge will be collected but are not required for entry. Guests are invited to take what they need for their homes and families!

Our 4th graders celebrated the amazing accomplishment of publishing personal opinion essays AND a four week deep dive immersing themselves in historical fiction book clubs.
They read texts such as, “I Love You Michael Collins” about a lesser known astronaut from the 1969 moon landing and “nine, ten:” about four adolescents in different parts of the world leading up to September 11th. Wow!
What cooler way to celebrate than with DIY “Dirt Cups” and of course sharing their amazing writing with an on stage aka “stand on your chair” reading.
Congratulations 4th grade on challenging yourselves, making daily intentional goals, and engaging in active and powerful conversations!
