Sweet Luna! Rescue writes:
My husband and I foster with Rocky Mountain Dachshund Rescue a 501(c)(3), and we are beginning the search for Luna’s forever home within the ME community because we know the understanding and compassion here is heartfelt.
We met Luna last fall when we picked her up at a gas station near Nephi, Utah. She was tiny — only 3 lbs, malnourished, suffering from aspiration pneumonia, and having been diagnosed with megaesophagus. She rode silently in my lap for over 100 miles to meet her first foster family. They loved her dearly and helped stabilize her, but when they were deployed overseas, Luna came to us in January.
The first months were hard. Luna continued with her ME symptoms and to regurgitate. It became clear that her esophagus moves food extremely slowly — often 6–8 hours or longer before reaching her stomach. 30 minutes in a Bailey chair wasn’t enough. She battled aspiration pneumonia again with an ICU stay. Her specialists recommended a g-tube, and it truly changed her life.
Today, Luna has a flush/button port, is spayed, thriving, and finally getting to be a dog. She has grown from 3 lbs to a healthy 6 lbs, wrestles with our other dogs, patrols the garden for interesting smells, play-growls and wrestles, loves tummy rubs, and naps curled against her people. She enjoys tiny ME-safe treats and likes being included in everything the other dogs are doing.
Luna is a fully grown dapple/merle rabbit (kaninchen) dachshund and truly one of the sweetest little souls we’ve fostered. She has been through so much without losing her gentle, loving temperament.
Luna will need a home experienced with or comfortable learning ME and g-tube management. She uses a harness instead of a collar, eats her meals through her g-tube and gets small safe treats by mouth. She -needs- understanding when she regurgitates or has esophageal spasms. In our house, she gets picked up, comforted, and told she’s okay — because she is and we use a napkin or cleaning wipe to wipe up the spot. She deserves a family who will continue treating her with patience, warmth, and kindness.
She also needs other friendly dogs in the home. Being part of a pack helps her anxiety tremendously, and she absolutely loves canine companionship. This allows her to stay at home alone without ending up in a panicked ME episode.
We have honestly waffled on keeping Luna ourselves because she fits our family beautifully, but we need to step back from foster failing and make room to help with a new grandbaby in the family.
Luna’s foster family is in Utah and would happily stay involved with playdates and babysitting her, or helping with care during travel for an adoptive family nearby. Rocky Mountain Dachshund Rescue is unable to pay to transport her to a family adopting outside of the Salt Lake City, Utah area.
RMDR does do out of state adoptions and her foster mom and dad will work to help with transport of Luna. We can discuses the details of transportation when the time comes.
If you think you may be the right home for this very special little girl, you can apply here: rockymountaindachshundrescue.com or rmdr.org for the rescue website.

Adorable Remy. Through no fault of his own, Rochel is looking for either a temporary home or permanent home or a rescue. Topeka, KS.
Remy is a 4 year old German Shepherd with congenital ME. I have had a domestic situation in which I have had to leave my home. I am in need of potentially a temporary foster home for him but as I am not sure of where I will end up, I may need a permanent home for him. Temporarily, I would be able to provide his food/medicine/etc until I know for sure if I would be able to take him back. He is currently in Topeka, KS.
He is only on sildenafil, Omeprazole and green lipped muscle powder for joints. He eat Inukshuk kibble with half a can of pedigree food on top of his kibble twice daily. He is able to drink water normally and eat his food normally as well.
I can be reached at 785-383-3755.
