What does it look like to take an AI application idea from concept to completion?

In the Artificial Intelligence Capstone online course, taught by MSE-AI Online Program Director Chris Callison Burch, students spend the semester developing a project around a problem or research question they choose.

Through either the AI Engineering or Research-Driven track, students can build and refine an end-to-end AI system, explore a focused research question, or investigate areas such as LLMs, computer vision, reasoning agents, or multimodal AI.

Congrats to this year's SPARC winners, Anna Liao, Jodie Tai, Joshua Weiss, and Nanda Putra! 🎉

Over the course of the 12-week competition, the team developed Chalice, an AI-powered medication management simulator designed to help healthcare students practice making medication decisions for patients with complex health needs.

SPARC (Side Projects for Advancement, Refinement and Collaboration) is Penn Engineering's annual summer competition for online learners, where MAS-CS Online students work in teams to put their programming skills into practice and build a technical project outside the classroom.

What keeps someone from intercepting your information when you log into an account or send a message? How do digital systems establish trust between people, devices and websites?

These are some of the questions our graduate students will explore in Penn Engineering's new online course, CIS 5560: Cryptography, created by Assistant Professor Pratyush Mishra.

Students will examine the mathematical foundations of encryption, authentication, digital signatures, hash functions and key exchange, along with advanced topics such as zero-knowledge proofs, homomorphic encryption and post-quantum cryptography.

This annual event gives you the chance to explore Penn Engineering's online programs through 11 different breakout rooms where you can have conversations with our faculty and staff.

Our six program directors will be there to discuss our online master's degrees in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Data Science, Software Systems & Cybersecurity, and Technology & Innovation.

Bringing an idea into the real world requires a range of skills, including strategic decision-making, collaboration, leadership, and an understanding of what makes a concept viable.

The new online MSE in Technology and Innovation (MSE-TI Online) is designed to help students build the technical, strategic, and leadership skills needed to evaluate opportunities, bring teams together, and move ideas from concept to deployment.
