KKD provides weekly dance instruction to students in Philadelphia public schools. The goals of the program are:
1.)
Koresh educators create a safe space for children to learn to dance, create dance, and to bridge dance with life skills including self-confidence, discipline, and respect. Koresh Kids Dance is a program in partnership with Philadelphia public schools that offers youth access to the arts while educating the whole person. The program centers around free, in-school dance classes for elementary-aged s
tudents that focus on fostering creativity and giving children an artistic and physical outlet. We currently partner with seven public schools in the Philadelphia School District and serve close to 450 students. To provide an environment for students to engage in creative dance experiences and through these experiences express themselves through improvisation and the development of choreography.
2.) To implement a student centered curriculum that celebrates individuality and fosters active community building.
3.) To develop skills in performing dance techniques, creating dance, and responding through self reflection and peer feedback to analyze, evaluate, and revise choreography to produce meaningful dance experiences.
4.) To establish a dance presence in schools that affirms the value and benefits inherent in the art form.
5.) To utilize dance classes and performances to support other areas of academic and personal development including learning across the curriculum, perseverance, goal setting, demonstrating respect, and practicing empathy and tolerance.
