Last week, one of our Early Childhood Coordinator, Lauren Williams, attended Career Day at William C. Longstreth Elementary School.

Lauren has been at Children’s Village since 2022. She is also an Adjunct Professor at Harcum College and previously worked for the Philadelphia School District.

She had a plethora of knowledge and experience to share with students who will be the future of the workforce, including how something as simple as bubbles can be a versatile tool for teaching!

We’ve had two amazing workshops for parent and family education this month! Our caregiver education equips families with strategies to reinforce learning and bridge the gap between school and home, boosting success in school for their children.

The first photo shows our workshop with “Chef Steph”, our Head Cook, showing parents how to cook their children’s favorite meals from our Nutrition program. The second is from our workshop on our preschool librarian’s approach to make reading fun and engaging for kids.

…and so much more! Without childcare, not only would parents and family members not be able to work, but children would be left without the vital attention, care, and education of their devoted teachers. Today (and everyday), we fight for equitable access to affordable, high-quality childcare and a fair wage for early childhood educators.

Happy Teacher & Staff Appreciation Week!

All week long, we celebrated our hardworking staff.

This year was extra special because it is also our 50th anniversary year. So many dedicated staff have come through our doors over the years. At CV, we not only support the development of young children, but we also aim to support the professional growth of our teaching staff. Thank you for all you do, CV staff!! 🥳🥳

Our longtime partners at PNC visited our classrooms today and read The Curious Garden by Peter Brown and What in the World? by Nancy Raines Day. They had amazing energy and we all had so much fun during storytime! Thank you volunteers!

We had a blast at our first Alumni Social last night! It was a joy to see how the relationships formed over the past fifty years have blossomed even after graduating from our program. Thank you to everyone who came!

If you didn’t get a chance to stop by, keep an eye out for more chances to reconnect throughout the year.

Last week, Dr. Philip Siu, a pediatrician and the founder of Chinatown Medical Services, provided two workshops on engaging children without screens as part of our parent education series. He discussed how hands-on play can aid a child’s development, including learning social skills, thinking creatively, and improving coordination and balance, and provided examples of engaging activities for parents to try with their kids.

Family education engagement is an integral component of our high-quality early childhood education program and a core part of our approach of respecting parents as a child’s primary teachers.

Thank you, Dr. Siu!
