Welcome to Positively Charged! Positively Charged is a club of Toastmasters International, a non-profit organization devoted to helping people develop better leadership and communication skills by practicing public speaking. Our club was founded in June 2005 by a group of PECO and Exelon employees to provide employees and members of the community with the opportunity to learn and practice communication, presentation, leadership and motivational skills in a positive and supportive environment. We have been recognized by Toastmasters International every year since the club’s inception as being a “President’s Distinguished” club. Our collegial, energetic “vibe” makes learning fun. Many of our members have been with the club since the beginning, while others join us each year. We invite you to join too. What Can Positively Charged Do For You?
• We help our members with leadership and communication – vital skills in today’s workplace and in our society. As your improved communication skills become obvious within the workplace and in all walks of life, increased visibility, recognition and promotion will follow.
• Your improved presentation skills will win you the respect of your colleagues, employees and associates – and make them wonder what you did to change! Leadership skills acquired through participation in Toastmasters will increase your management potential. As a Toastmaster, you will acquire an increased ability to motivate and persuade, making you more effective as a supervisor or manager.
• Members of Toastmasters clubs have access to a wide range of educational materials, including books, audio and videotapes, conferences and seminar programs. Positively Charged hosts two social events per year -one in December and one in June, the year-end for Toastmasters. How Does It Work? All are welcome to be a guest at our meetings. Once you join, you will receive a New Member Kit. The kit features a copy of the Competent Communicator (CC) and Competent Leader (CL) manuals, orientation materials, and a copy of Toastmaster Magazine, a monthly publication. The first 10 speech projects in the CC manual are designed to get the the new Toastmaster started. Speech projects focus on areas such as organization, voice inflection, and persuasiveness; helping to build confidence and ease as a speaker. During club meetings, “Table Topics” sessions help members “think on their feet” by delivering short impromptu speeches (only 1 – 2 minutes). After giving a speech, each Toastmaster receives a constructive speech evaluation. Speakers gain valuable insight about their strengths and areas for improvement. Members are asked to take on roles such as Toastmaster of the Day, Evaluator, Timer, etc. as practice at the club level lays the foundation for future opportunities at Toastmasters and beyond. We hope you will join us! More Information
