True success in math is more than passing grades or even high grades. True success is when the level of understanding is such that the student can explain clearly why their answer is right or wrong. ✊🏾

Embrace the mistakes your children make and view them as data to inform what you need to explain to them. Welcome it as part of the learning process. Help your children become comfortable with making mistakes! ✊🏾

Understanding math will enable you to ask more of the right questions. As a result you can start some good trouble. ✊🏾

When you say, "math is too difficult" and similar defeatist statements, you are disqualifying yourself from access to many opportunities. Don't set yourself up for failure. ✊🏾

Social capital is a real thing. How do your children navigate these decisions and how to choose being cool or smart or both? ✊🏾

It is very important to provide positive propaganda and messaging around mathematics. This may even be more important than improving instructional methods and teacher training... ✊🏾

Fathers have to learn the math in order to protect their children from the deep discomfort and frustration of math homework. This does not mean the children should not experience productive struggle, but it should be just that - productive. Fathers have to step up and encourage other fathers to do the same. ✊🏾
