11th grade is man's attempt to manipulate the concept of survival of the fittest. If kids survive getting up at 6:30am and getting home at 5pm and immediately needing to work on the endless banal assignments for someone else's judgement/grades until well past midnight when the kids are glassy-eyed shadows of their former selves, then they are rewarded with getting into a four-year college where they repeat this process: "I can't do anything but school work." When I say my kid is struggling, his advisor says, "oh yeah, all the kids struggle in 11th grade, they are all exhausted and struggling to keep up. It is really hard."

When my kids were homeschooled they loved learning and would sit with piles of books, or run around outside, or daydream. They had curiosity and joy...
Somedays it feels like we are doing this living as humans wrong.
So many kids are anxious and depressed and just plain tired. Many are medicated so they can keep going and doing what they are supposed to do.
In my coaching practice I work with adults who have spent their lifetime reliving the past and projecting into the future. I help them to be present, help them rekindle what they loved as young children before their joy was sucked away with endless work. Imagine if we taught our kids to slow down, to be present, to be curious, to hold onto what they love...
