Southern West Virginia Community and Technical College held Lineman Orientation Tuesday for its next cohort on the Williamson Campus. Students had the opportunity to meet instructors, learn program expectations, and prepare for the hands-on training ahead as they begin their journey toward careers in the utility and power industry.

We would like to congratulate, Preston Mahon on being one of the students who attended orientation on Wednesday, 05/13/2025, and has his spot secured for the Fall in the Line Program.

Congratulations, Preston! We are so proud of you.

We are so proud of Austin Wolford on passing his NREMT-B exam on his first attempt. Austin is now a Nationally Registered EMT. He did all of this while being a high school student who was also working to pass his CNA licensure, volunteering with the Kimper Fire Department, working at Texas Roadhouse, attending classes through Big Sandy Community and Technical College, among other things. Doing all of this seems like a lot and super stressful, but Austin made it look easy and handled it so well.

Austin, we are so proud of you and this huge accomplishment. WAY TO GO!

REMINDER....

The Senior Walk will take place on Monday, May 4, 2026, at 9:30 a.m. at Phelps Elementary School.

Students do need to wear their cap and gowns.

Parents are welcome to attend, but will not be permitted inside the school buildings. Parents must remain outside at all times.

Today, Phelps High School's Administration and Staff are beaming with pride at the way our WSAZ Best of the Class recipient, Noah Staggs, represented us at Marshall University yesterday.

Ms. Megan Lemon, Marshall University's Assistant Director of Recruitment reached out to Mr. Hamilton following the event, and had this to say about Noah.

"I wanted to take a moment to brag on Noah Staggs, the Phelps High School representative who attended the WSAZ Best of the Class on the campus of Marshall University today. I had the privilege of watching Noah interact with other students in attendance. He made it a point to get to know the other students at his table and reached out to another student who was sitting alone to invite him to join their group. As a former high school counselor myself, I walked away from the event impressed by Noah and his actions. I know your day is often filled with difficult situations and students, so I hope this is a bright spot in your email inbox."

Noah exemplifies daily to our staff and student body, sound character and kindness. Our world definitely needs more Noah's. Way to represent Hornetville, Noah! We are so proud of you.

UPDATED SENIOR WALK DATE & TIME...

Due to a scheduling conflict with the elementary school, the senior walk will still take place on Monday, May 4th, but the time will change from 1:30 p.m. to 9:30 a.m.

Each recipient will receive a scholarship in the amount of $500.
