2023-2024 VIPA Special Election
The 2023-2024 VIPA (Very Important Parent Association) Board currently has some open positions! We are now accepting nominations for these positions, and will hold a special election meeting on August 30th at 6:30pm in the Heritage MPR. All current-standing VIPA Member Families are able to nominate themselves for a position and cast one (1) vote (per position) in this election.
The VIPA Board consists of (14) fourteen members, (8) eight of which are officers within the board. They are elected to a (1) one-year term from among the member population to represent the interests of the parents and the students in support of all policies, procedures, and activities at The Heritage School, in addition to fundraising. A Teacher Representative appointed by the teachers also sits on the board for a two-year term.
Three (3) members of the VIPA Board will serve on The Heritage School’s Advisory Board on a voluntary basis. Any board member may substitute or fill in for a VIPA member serving on the Advisory Board as an alternate in the event of an absence.
The VIPA Board currently consists of the following positions: President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasurer, District School Board Representative, Historian, Auditor, Parliamentarian, Teacher Representative, and (5) five Executive Volunteers. All board members will be equal in standing.
This Special Election is being held to fill the current vacancies on the VIPA Board. The current vacancies are of the following positions:
Vice President
Auditor
District School Board Representative
Executive Volunteer x 5 (Five available EV spots)
A description of each open position and a list of their duties are explained below:
The Vice President shall:
Act as an aide to the President, and shall serve the President’s functions when the President is absent. Including, but not limited to, public relations, email correspondence, social media, etc.
Coordinate committee chairs and act as a liaison between committees and the VIPA Board.
Is eligible to serve on the Advisory board as a member or alternate.
Oversee expenditure requests in partnership with the Treasurer.
Will, in partnership with the President, review the filing by the treasurer of all forms, and verify that the Auditor has done their audits in September & April (to be presented in October & May).
The Auditor shall:
Audit the books and financial records of the organization twice annually in September & April as well as anytime throughout the school year if otherwise requested by the board.
Render a written report (a.k.a. Audit Checklist) at the October & May (transition) meetings and again one month proceeding any other audit requests.
Is eligible to serve on the Advisory board as a member or alternate.
Will aid the President in the upkeep of the VIPA Board’s social media & email accounts.
Will aid the VIPA board in the transition of all sensitive account records during the term transition period.
The District School Board Representative shall:
Attend the Snowline Joint Unified School District Board meetings and represent the interests of The Heritage School.
Report on actions of the district administration and the effect on the Heritage School to VIPA.
Is eligible to serve on the Advisory board as a member or alternate.
Serve as a school district staff liaison between SJUSD and the VIPA Board.
The Executive Volunteers shall:
Attend all monthly VIPA Board & General Meetings.
Participate in all VIPA Business, Committee, and Planning sessions.
Is eligible to serve on the Advisory Board as a member or alternate.
Will maintain the same voting and standing rights as the board officers.

Nominations are due no later than FRIDAY, AUGUST 25th by 5pm. Nominees, please plan on attending our election meeting on Wednesday, August 30th at 6:30pm in the MPR. Please arrive by 6pm, as our voting session is to open at 6:30pm. Feel free to contact us with any questions you may have.
