I love that the holidays bring friends and family together! I always have great convos with them! I was talking to a friend last night about whether I consider Netflix or activities/things not in the fitness industry to be in competition with working out... and while one can see it that way, multiple things in this world DO compete for our attention, but at the end of the day it’s a matter of priorities.
I don’t necessarily think it’s Netflix or *insert show, movie, activity, etc* that causes people to not work out. At the end of the day it’s how you decide to spend your time and how important working out is to you. Because if it’s not Netflix, it’s something else.
“If you want it bad enough, you’ll make it happen. If you don’t, you’ll make excuses.” is the saying. And it’s true. Sometimes we do this to ourselves unintentionally, simply by failing to schedule our workouts into our routine, or failing to meal prep and hoping for the best, only to get takeout every night of the week.
You don’t have to be perfect on this journey. You don’t have to give up Netflix, or takeout. But you HAVE to have a balance. I know I always say this but you have to find a plan that's going to work with your lifestyle. Finding the right plan for you is what's going to truly help you live a healthy and HAPPY life! I recognized that sometimes (80% of the time), sacrificing another episode of Netflix to go crush my workout, or making a meal at home instead of getting UberEats, is what will help me feel my best physically. Then the other 20% I can sleep in, skip a workout, order take-out, and feel great mentally!
It takes some trial and error to figure out what exactly you need to sacrifice and when, and when you don’t! It also takes recognizing what your priorities are and what they should be if you want to achieve that lifestyle balance.
We have to keep our own selves in check and realize when our priorities shift, show ourselves some grace, then re-adjust those priorities. This journey won’t be perfect and thankfully it doesn’t need to be! But you do have to keep it real with yourself!
Happy Holidays to all of you!
