Cindy will be signing books at the museum from 1:00-4:00 on Saturday, Sept. 12, and will be reading at the Reading Marathon at 4:30 in the Children's Activities Shelter in the park.

Join us for Cindy Wilson’s book signing during Laura Days at the museum. Must-have books for Laura fans!

Cindy Wilson, a life-long Minnesotan, is author of the award-winning books "The Beautiful Snow: The Ingalls Family, the Railroads, and the Hard Winter of 1880-81" and "We Suffered Much: Charles Wood Irish and the Dakota Territory Railroad Survey of 1879-1881." Her book about a Frank Lloyd Wright-designed home in Mason City Iowa was recently awarded a certificate of excellence by the State Historical Society of Iowa. She has been published three times in South Dakota History, the quarterly journal of the South Dakota Historical Society.

Like many, she first discovered the Little House books in third grade and became fascinated with the history of the era and the real Ingalls family. She serves on the Board of Directors of the Laura Ingalls Wilder Memorial Society in De Smet, South Dakota. She also enjoys art quilting, hiking, biking, traveling, and in the last few years has been learning both the cello and watercolor painting.

There is a Music Jam at Laura Ingalls Wilder Days on Saturday, Sept.12, from 7-9pm, in the Traditional Crafts Demonstration Area
This year’s jam is a folk music jam along with fiddle tunes and singalongs. The attached song list suggestions are a mix of familiar, easy-to-play and sing tunes. Tim, who is leading this year’s jam, thought it would be helpful to have these tunes available to practice ahead of time, and for those who might be interested in “Playing a Break.” So bring your fiddle, banjo, ukulele, mandolin, guitar, or jug—we welcome any other song requests that fit within our campfire song motif.

The reading marathon is held during Laura Ingalls Wilder Days in Pepin. The goal is for a team of readers to keep reading the Little House Books aloud for the two days of our event. Each reader takes a 30 minute block.
The Little House Books are what this event is all about! The words are magic, and take readers and listeners to Laura’s time and place.
The Reading Marathon is moving this year to the children’s activities pavilion next to the playground in the main park.

Just like that, the summer 2026 season of "Home at Laura's Place," at the Little House Wayside near Pepin, is over. The weekend of August 8 & 9 was lovely. The cabin was charming, with furnishings of the 1870s, and craftspeople showed how things were done in Laura's time. There were many activities for children to do. Here are a few pictures from the weekend.
