College Knowledge Debra Clay, Independent College Consultant

After 14 enjoyable years of helping high school students and their families find their college path, I have closed my consulting business and am focusing my time on family and volunteering with another education-related organization, the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI) at Bradley University. For those looking for college guidance, I recommend you work with a consultant who is a member of

a professional organization: the Higher Education Consultants Association (HECA), the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC), or the Independent Educational Consultants Association (IECA).

Matching students with colleges where they can thrive.

Selecting a college is one of the first adult choices in life. My focus will be on helping the student explore his/her unique background, values, talents, interests and goals, then develop a target list of schools. I spend 25% of my time visiting college campuses, so I can draw on first-hand knowledge. Working through the selection and application process can actually be a good first step to being successful once in college. Parental support and guidance are important, but the student has to “own” the process. My role is to serve as a guide, and have some fun along the way! I am a member of the Higher Education Consultants Association (HECA) and the National Association for College Admission Counseling (NACAC) and have been helping students since 2010.
