I’ve made a lot of mistakes in my life, but marrying Nick was not one of them. My only regret is that I wasn’t this person I am now sooner; that I wasn’t capable of this kind of love and vulnerability at an earlier point in my life—and in his. Perhaps our paths might have been a bit softer, and our scars might not have been dredged as deep, or we’d have gotten to spend that much more time knowing what real, true love feels like together. But I know now how lucky I got, so I turn my face to the future, and this time we get to spend in this beautiful, fulfilling, and kind love in the present.

WE SAY NO TO DATA CENTER 05/26/2026

While the rise of AI is inevitable, its negative impact on the environment and our culture is also. This weekend local news sources for the greater Escambia County area announced possible plans for building a data center on our home turf.

The environmental impact of a facility like this will be devastating for the natural water resources in our area, among other things. There are many documentaries about other areas across our beautiful county who have been wiped out of clean and quick running water and bombarded with industrial noise and light pollution, all of which not only has threatened or destroyed the natural ecosystems of plants and animals in the area, but the humans who spent many generations building families in these small, unfortunate places as well.

Don’t let them do that to us. Sign the petition, write your governor, your mayor, and tell them NO: you can not build your data center here!

WE SAY NO TO DATA CENTER We, the undersigned residents, business owners, and supporters of Pensacola, respectfully urge the City of Pensacola to reconsider and reject any proposal involving the development of a large-scale hyper data center within or near our communities.  While we understand the importance of economic...

She will have knowledge of art and literature, anatomy and the science of movement, history, humanities, and sociology. She will know music written decades before her birth, and will have opinions on what makes something more classic rock and roll, more new wave synth, or more post modern pop. She will hear music to feel and to remember, and she will understand how sound can transport her to the other times. She will feel free enough to dance when she is happy no matter who is watching, but she won’t be afraid to cry if she is sad. She will know when it is best to talk, and when the time is right to stay silent. She will love her body, and she will learn its limits and its triumphs. She will see others with empathy, and learn to approach the world with kindness and love. She will have successes and failures, but she will know that everything she has was a gift that was given to her so that her path might be a little less rocky or might have a few less sharp turns than mine did before her. I always knew I never wanted to birth children, but the creation and cultivation of life is a process that extends far beyond conception and the trauma of birth. I will continue to be a nurturing source that powers who she becomes as her life takes its shape, and I can only hope and dream that she grows into a better, stronger, smarter, and more capable person than me. That’s my job as a mother: to nurture, to cultivate, and to create a greatness that far surpasses anything I could ever be. This is gift is my legacy.

Pilates is in its performative era – and the backlash is brewing 05/01/2026

Did you know our local Pure Pilates studio is THE Gulf Coast hub for legit and comprehensive Balanced Body Pilates training? While we’ve seen an uptick in the fly-by-night Pilates instructor trainings and pop-up studios along the region and across the southeast, we stand true to high quality education based in classical Pilates teachings, injury awareness and prevention, and safety. Our fledgling instructors invest anywhere from 6 months to several years completing the Balanced Body syllabus with its required teaching, personal practice, and observation hours-depending on how far they choose to go.

While I’m thrilled to see Pilates in the mainstream, it’s important to remember to Pilates responsibly; just because it’s marketed as “Pilates” doesn’t mean it’s Pilates, and what you see on social media does not always mirror Pilates in real life!

You’re in good hands with any of our well-trained and highly-certified instructors at Pure Pilates, and if you yourself want to learn to be an instructor with the skills to help others move, stay fit, and live healthier lives through healthy movement, give us a call at 850-607-2772 to get your education journey started.

Pilates is in its performative era – and the backlash is brewing The exercise is more popular than ever and has become synonymous with a clean-cut, social media-friendly lifestyle. But this boom has been followed by concerns over quality and problematic influencers. Katie Rosseinsky explores why some instructors are worried about where the industry is heading

I feel very lucky today, not just because it’s St. Patrick’s Day, but because it’s the 78th birthday of my biggest fan: my mom.

I think it takes some time to realize that eventually we become our parents, but when your parents are good parents, the realization of who they are and how it’s made you who you are hit a little bit harder. I see now all the little things: the bed time songs, the play, the routines, and the life lessons that she quietly taught me along the way now in how I raise my own kids, and man am I grateful for this blueprint I’ve been given in life. Sometimes I want to text her and tell her I don’t know how she did it, raising two little girls who were seventeen months apart, while dad worked full-time—before the digital age; how cool she was with us tearing apart the couch cushions to make forts, or playing with shaving cream on Saran Wrap at the kitchen table. My mom has always loved children, and now that I have these two little girls in my life, I see how happy it makes her to see me happy and successful and I know now this is what we’re here for.

With the luck of the Irish and a lot of love-Happy Birthday, mom

The last few months have been spent living, and the time never seems to even slow. December and Christmas was filled with family, January saw a little snow, and February was filled with love—not the kind they sell at the drugstore, but the kind that starts and ends each day with hugs and positive affirmations. The new year doesn’t bring a new me, but a more unplugged version of the past one who takes photos for my camera roll and not for content; one who reads books in print, not just online posts; and one who is stepping back from the tiny, shiny box to spend time with a husband and a family who mean more than a meme or the latest “news” update. This acoustic adaptation of myself is worn like the record sleeves on my shelves—faded and bent, but still strong enough to keep the music inside playing on. I hope we all can unplug a little, take a step away, and live. They say life moves pretty fast, if you don’t stop and look around once in a while you could miss it.

Did you have a chance to see Italian ballet dancers Antonella Albano and Claudio Coviello perform in the opening ceremony along with dancers from Milan’s Teatro alla Scala ballet company?

Ballet and what I’ve seen on the internet defined by pedestrians as “interpretive dance” is not for everyone, but I enjoyed this contemporary ballet and dance that showcased the various parts of what make Italian culture what it is.

Here’s to a successful Olympic Games—may everyone compete and be judged fairly for their athletic skill and artistry, and may we all show reverence and respect to the other nations and their teams!

In 2006, I was hired for my first figure modeling session. I’d been invited by a fellow dancer to sit for a group of local artists, and was told to bring a handful of ballet costumes. The group met in the back room at a framing shop off W Street, and it was there I met Pat, Theresa, Jean, and many other retired ladies who wanted to paint, sketch, and create ballet themed works of art to sell because the figure nudes they really enjoyed doing never did well in this conservative region. I’d show up for three hours, dance through some gestural sketches to help them warm up, then pick a costume and a pose for some shorter or longer works, depending on the session. These women captured me in ways I never saw myself, and sometimes invented versions of me I never even knew could exist. I was just a young dancer, but they loved how I could move, pose, and sit perfectly still for 20 minute intervals at a time—and I was getting paid! These women taught me what it was to truly be a “model,” not just in the noun sense, but as a verb. We worked together to create art in a way that culminated all of our experience in training: the art of drawing, painting, dance, and costume. From then on, I modeled for many other artists and photographers in a significant side career that still extends to calls from random drawing groups and local artists even today.

I am saddened to hear of the passing of local art legend, Pat Regan, who helped carry this group and many other local art groups and artists over the years. I’m honored to be a part of her collection of work, and for the chance that she and these other women gave me to learn what it means to truly be an artist.
