💟 As a child growing up on a dairy farm, it meant the world to me to have a great grandmother. My grandmother was the oldest of her nine children. Her peaceful smile and quiet ways always left an impression on me. She braided my hair. Her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren came to visit her at my grandma’s house very often. That meant cousin time for us!
💟 We celebrated her 100th birthday on August 21, 1982. Even though forty years have passed, I still think if you, Sallie Belle Griffin Forbes. I’d like to think that some of the faith, hard work, commitment to family, strong sense of right and wrong, and being good to your fellow man will continue to be passed on to future generations.
I see it in my children. For that, I am grateful.
💟 She’d be 140 years old today.

🇺🇸 As our nation celebrates its 2️⃣4️⃣6️⃣th Fourth of July, it’s good to stop and be mindful of what that means and what it took to get us there.
I was reminded in my devotions this morning (and in a TV news story 😂) that many Americans will celebrate with a hot dog-eating contest. Not my thing, but nonetheless a memorable way to celebrate the founding of our country.
Paraphrasing Augustine, “The best way to develop patriotism is by loving your own family.”
Each July I find myself taking this same picture of our flag posted by our front door. Without fail, if I’m still enough to notice, I hear birdsongs and pond sounds alongside a gentle rustling breeze.
To myself I say, slow down more and reflect on God’s tremendous blessings. Love your family, your church, your community, and your nation. Let’s continue in deep prayer for the peace and security of our great but struggling nation. 🇺🇸
Now, let’s get the hot dogs ready!
