T is for Track.

We talked about Habit Trackers earlier this month, but tracking goes much further than checking a box every day.

Tracking helps me answer a question I can't always answer based on how I feel: Am I actually making progress?

Because there are weeks when I feel like I haven't accomplished much at all. Then I look back at what I've done, the pieces of a project I've completed, the habits I've practiced, or the times I've simply shown up and realize there's a lot more progress happening than I gave myself credit for.

Tracking also shows me when something isn't working.

That's useful too.

The goal isn't to collect perfect data or create another thing I have to maintain. I want just enough information to help me see patterns and make better decisions.

You can't always see progress while you're standing in the middle of it. Sometimes you have to look back at the evidence.

What could you track right now that would help you see your progress more clearly?

Sometimes planning starts with a list.

And sometimes it starts with a little inspiration.

A color combination, a sticker sheet, a quote, a theme, sometimes that little spark is exactly what makes you want to open your planner and get started.

This week, I leaned into the colorful school-supply theme and let the inspiration lead the layout. And honestly, that’s part of the fun. Planning doesn’t always have to look the same to work.

What inspired your planner this week?

🎉 **WE FINALLY HAVE A WINNER!** 🎉

Way back in January, before I closed down the VIPlanner group, I did a giveaway for a **Book Planner**. There were only a few entries, so at the time I had decided that instead of giving away the entire planner, I would create a special Book Planner insert for the winner.

And then…life happened.

After losing my dad, so many things got pushed to the side, and this was one of them. I never drew the winner, and I never got those insert pages created.

But I haven’t forgotten about it!

So instead of picking this back up where I left off, I decided we’re going to make the prize even BETTER. 🙌

The winner is getting the **WHOLE Book Planner**, along with the **deco kit AND sticker sheet** I have to go with it!

And our winner is…

🥁🥁🥁 Crissy Cooper

Congratulations, Crissy!! I hope you have so much fun setting up your new Book Planner and filling it with all of your future reads! 📚

And thank you for your patience with me as I finally check this one off the list. Sometimes follow-through happens a little later than we planned—but it still counts. 😉

S is for Start Small.

We have talked about this in so many different ways throughout the ABCs of Planning, and there’s a reason for that: starting matters.

When something feels overwhelming, my instinct can be to figure out how I’m going to finish the whole thing before I’ve even begun. I start thinking about how much time it’s going to take, everything that could go wrong, all the pieces I still need to figure out…and suddenly I’ve made starting much harder than it needed to be.

So I make it smaller.

Open the document. Gather the supplies. Send one email. Work for ten minutes. Choose one task from the Laundry List.

Starting small doesn’t mean the goal is small. It means I’m creating an entry point into the work.

And once I’m moving, I can decide whether I have the time and energy to continue. If I don’t? I still moved it forward.

We don’t always need a giant burst of motivation. Sometimes we just need a starting point that feels doable.

What’s something you’ve been putting off that you could make smaller today?

R is for Rest & Reflect.

I used to think reviewing my week meant looking at everything I didn't finish and figuring out how to squeeze it into the next one.

That's not really reflection. That's just moving tasks around.

Now, I want to know more than what got checked off. I want to notice what actually happened. What worked? What felt harder than it needed to? Where did I follow through? What kept getting pushed aside? And maybe most importantly, what do I want to do differently next time?

That's why I love my Rest & Reflect time. Reflection gives me information, but the *rest* part matters too. I don't want every pause in my planner to immediately become another opportunity to accomplish something.

Sometimes I need to stop.

Then, when I come back, I can make decisions based on what actually happened instead of immediately creating another plan based on what I *wish* had happened.

Rest gives me room. Reflection gives me information. Together, they help me decide what comes next.

When you look back at your last week, what's one thing that worked that you want to carry forward?

This week's ABCs of Planning took us through L–Q: Laundry List, Monthly, Next Step, One Thing, Project, and Quick Win. And when I put all six together, they tell a pretty important story about why some of the things on our lists never seem to get done.

Sometimes the problem isn't that we're procrastinating. It's that we've written down a project as though it's a task.

"Create the workshop."
"Clean out the closet."
"Launch the new thing."

Those aren't single tasks. There are multiple steps hiding inside each one, and until we break those steps down, it can be really hard to know where to start.

In today's Friday Chit Chat, we're talking about how I use a Laundry List to break down a project, why the bigger picture matters, and how Next Step, One Thing, and Quick Wins help turn that big idea into something we can actually execute.

Because you don't have to finish the whole project today.

You just need to leave it a little farther along than you found it.

Come hang out with me, and then tell me in the comments: What's one project on your list right now that you could break into smaller pieces?

Q is for Quick Win.

Not every task needs to be the biggest, hardest, or most important thing on your list.

Sometimes I need a quick win.

There's something about finishing one small thing that changes the energy of a day. I stop staring at everything I haven't done and suddenly have evidence that I'm moving.

A quick win might be answering the email I've been avoiding, making an appointment, putting away the laundry, finishing one small piece of a project, or taking care of something that's been sitting on my list much longer than the five minutes it actually takes to complete.

The important thing is that I'm not using quick wins to avoid the work that matters. I'm using them intentionally to help myself start.

Momentum has a way of creating more momentum.

And on the days when starting feels especially hard, I would much rather choose something small, complete it, and use that movement to take another step than spend the day waiting to feel motivated enough to tackle the perfect task.

So look at your list today. What's one quick win you could give yourself?

P is for Project.

A project and a task are not the same thing, and realizing that has saved me from writing some pretty impossible to-do lists.

"Plan workshop" isn't a task.

"Redo office" isn't a task.

"Launch new product" isn't a task.

Those are projects, and each one contains multiple decisions and actions that need to happen before I can ever check the whole thing off.

When I put a project on my daily list as though it's one task, I can work on it for an hour and still end the day feeling like I didn't accomplish anything because "finish project" is still sitting there unchecked.

This is exactly why I'm excited about the new Active Projects Insert. It gives the bigger idea somewhere to live while I break it down into the individual pieces I can actually work.

Once I can see those pieces, I can start asking better questions. What needs to happen first? What can I do this week? What can I realistically accomplish today?

That's how a big idea stops being something I'm carrying around and becomes something I can execute.

Take a look at your current to-do list. Do you have a "task" sitting on there that's actually a project in disguise?

O is for One Thing.

We've talked a lot this month about choosing, focusing, and figuring out what deserves your attention, and One Thing is where I put that into practice when my brain wants to do everything at once.

There are days when I look at my list and genuinely feel like all of it needs to happen. Work needs my attention. Home needs my attention. Business needs my attention. Somebody needs something. There's laundry somewhere reminding me that it exists.

When that happens, trying to figure out how to do everything usually leaves me doing a little bit of everything and finishing almost nothing.

So I come back to one thing.

If I could move one thing forward right now, what would I choose?

That doesn't mean the rest doesn't matter. It doesn't even mean that one thing will be the only thing I accomplish today. It simply gives me somewhere to put my attention so I can start moving instead of standing still trying to decide.

And once that one thing is finished, or I've moved it as far as I can, I can choose again.

You don't have to solve your entire list at once. Sometimes you just need to give yourself permission to do one thing first.

What's your one thing today?
