Hi everyone! I’m Dr. Jina Yang, and I recently joined the Department of Counseling at UNCP as an Assistant Professor. I earned my master’s degree in Counseling, with a concentration in School Counseling, from Johns Hopkins University and completed my doctoral degree in Counseling and Supervision at James Madison University this May. Prior to coming to UNCP, I worked as a school counselor with Fairfax County Public Schools in Virginia. My current scholarly interests include counselor identity, professional dispositions, relational-cultural approaches to counseling, and linguistic justice in counseling. I’m grateful and excited to be part of the counseling program!

CMHC student Bennett Knowles attended Active Minds, Inc.’s Hill Day and Mental Health Conference in D.C.! During this trip he worked with a team to advocate for the Campus Lifeline Act of 2026 (H.R. 8657), which amends the Public Health Service Act to enhance programs for youth su***de prevention & intervention and prints the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline on all newly issued student ID cards to improve visibility and awareness of resources available.
