The Ninth Grade Center is fortunate enough to have Mr. Kanen Huff, former Ray-Pec student and current Missouri State University student, as a student teacher. Teaching alongside NGC's business teacher, Mr. Conley, the two have become quite the duo! Mr. Conley said the best part of having Mr. Huff is "watching him thrive even in challenging environments."
Mr. Huff explained how easy the decision was to come back to Ray-Pec for student teaching because he "had amazing teachers and coaches who made a lasting impact" that he hopes to pay forward. Mr. Huff's students have already formed strong relationships with their student teacher, citing him as a trusted adult in the building and looking to him for guidance.
Once a panther, always a panther! 🐾

The Advanced English 1 classes are studying Edgar Allan Poe again, so you know what that means: Ms. Gerlt had to channel her inner Poe! Throughout this Poe unit, students are reviewing concepts, such as imagery and suspense in a text. Additionally, they're introduced to the concepts of poetic sound devices. Students even have an opportunity to write their own poetry -- with a Poe-esque twist, of course.

NGC Spanish teachers, Mrs. Seward and Dr. Loftin, are bringing a huge celebration right here to school! National Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated in the United States each year from September 15-October 15.
Hispanic Heritage celebrates the customs, legacies, and achievements of United States citizens with Hispanic roots.
Congress first passed a resolution to celebrate Hispanic heritage at the national level as a week-long event on September 17, 1968. Nearly 20 years later, on August 17, 1988, President Ronald Reagan stretched the celebrations to a month, from September 15 to October 15.

NGC wants to give a huge congratulations to September's Students of the Month. These students were nominated by their teachers because they exemplify the respect and responsibility of panther every day. Great job!

In Mrs. Dummermuth's Algebra class, students are working on real world application problems where they are given authentic scenarios and tasked with writing equations to solve. They are assigned to figure out different situations like menu prices, tickets to games, and hourly pay.
They had 11 scenarios to choose from so the teachers could encourage student choice and voice. Great job, panthers! 🐾

Phoebe, one of NGC's therapy dogs, has been hard at work supporting students. Since the year started, everyone received a lesson on what it means to have a therapy dog at school, and they filled out a Google Form explaining how they plan to interact with the dogs in the building. Sometimes Phoebe is in the classroom setting, and others she's on a walk with her classmates. More specifically, Pheebs helps the counselors by assisting with emotional regulation, student mediations, and lowering overall student stress levels. Phoebe knows what it means to be a respectful and responsible panther! 🐾
