Zero to Six: Leading Early Literacy Through the Science of Reading

At the Zero to Six Science of Reading Early Childhood Leadership Institute, we will focus on three powerful topics every early childhood leader needs to understand and be able to support across classrooms:

1. Science of Reading for PreK–K

The foundation for reading success begins long before children enter first grade. Leaders will explore how oral language, phonological awareness, alphabet knowledge, vocabulary, print concepts, and comprehension work together to build strong early readers. This session will help leaders understand what evidence-aligned literacy instruction should look like in PreK and Kindergarten classrooms.

2. Structured Literacy Through Play

Structured literacy does not have to be boring or disconnected from early childhood practice. We will discuss how explicit, systematic instruction can be delivered through hands-on, playful, and developmentally appropriate learning experiences. Leaders will learn how to support teachers in making literacy instruction intentional, engaging, and aligned to how young children learn best.

3. Early Dyslexia Indicators

Early childhood leaders play a critical role in noticing when young learners may need additional support. We will examine early indicators of dyslexia and reading difficulty, including challenges with phonological awareness, sound-symbol connections, rapid naming, letter-sound knowledge, and language development. The goal is not to label children early, but to recognize needs early and respond with the right support.

Zero to Six is designed for leaders who are ready to move beyond awareness and build literacy systems that work.

Early Childhood Leaders: It’s Time to Lead Literacy Differently Through the Science of Reading

The early years are not a waiting period for reading instruction. They are the foundation for future reading success.

Today’s early childhood leaders must understand how the Science of Reading connects to oral language, phonological awareness, vocabulary, print concepts, alphabet knowledge, comprehension, and structured literacy practices.

The Zero to Six Science of Reading Early Childhood Leadership Institute is designed for leaders who are ready to move beyond random literacy activities and build sustainable, evidence-aligned literacy systems for young children.

This is leadership work.
This is Science of Reading work.
This is how we change literacy outcomes from the very beginning.
