You can help protect the voting rights of people with disabilities by volunteering to survey polling places during the statewide primary on Sept. 9 and Election Day on Nov. 3.

The Rhode Island Governor’s Commission on Disabilities is seeking volunteers to visit polling places to ensure they are free of barriers that could prevent people with disabilities from voting. Each survey takes about 15 minutes and can be done any time during polling hours.

Volunteers will check for accessibility issues with signs, parking, entrances, ramps, doors and whether the voting space itself is accessible. Online and print versions of the survey are available.

With this data, GCD can communicate with local boards of canvassers to remove barriers to voting on the day of the election or the next election.

Volunteers will be required to attend a GCD Polling Monitor Training. If you would like to volunteer, please email Assistant ADA Coordinator for Employment and Services Crystal Martin at [email protected].
