Welcome to the CSUF Swing Dance Club! Our mission is to welcome people to the swing dance community and to provide a fun, beginner-friendly environment. This is a great place to make friends while learning a new skill. No experience and no partner needed! Free membership!
Swing by every Thursday and Friday night from 6-8pm in Kinesiology 202.
You don’t need to! Just bring a good attitude and you’ll learn the steps in no time. Many of our club members/officers started with zero experience and got a little better every week. Practice makes perfect, and if you ever need a refresher lesson, our officers are here to help you out.
What do I wear? What kind of shoes do I bring?
Wear something that makes you feel cool and comfortable; jeans and a t-shirt are a-ok! If you’re feeling fancy, you can also jazz it up with dresses, skirts, blouses, blazers, suspenders, suits, ties, hats, and so on.
Sneakers, flats, and dress shoes work great on the dance floor. Keds and leather-soled shoes are a popular choice for swing dancers. If you want to wear heels, choose something with a short thick heel, preferably with straps or a buckle so it doesn’t come off.
What do you do in the meetings?
On Thursdays, we teach beginner’s lessons. The first few lessons will start with swing dance fundamentals, including the basic footwork, turns, and how to dance with a partner. We’ll gradually teach more advanced moves throughout the semester. Fridays will be for intermediate lessons, guest teachers, and fun club socials! We’ll also play games, practice dancing together, and go out social dancing at places (Atomic Ballroom in Irvine is one of our favorite dance spots).
What if I miss some of the meetings? How do I catch up?
If you missed a few lessons or if you’re joining the club halfway through the semester, just flag down one of our officers and we’ll get you caught up. We can teach the basic moves, or go over lessons from previous club meetings.
We also have one-on-one review meetings dedicated to, well, reviewing anything you missed/need practice on. The one-on-ones will take place on the following days:
