I have some very sad news to share. Ian Witarsa, esteemed graduate of the Pasadena City College Architecture Program passed away on October 16th, 2023. Ian was a distinguished student in our program from 2002 - 2005. During his final semester at PCC he worked for me as my TA in the second year studio. In Fall 2005, he transferred into the third year at SCI-Arc where he completed his architectural education receiving his BArch.
Ian was one of the most inspirational and talented architecture students I have had the pleasure of knowing. He greeted everyone at all times with a smile, kindness and humility. In studio, he was a generous classmate and friend, sharing his hard earned insights and creative knowledge with all others, including myself. Rest in peace dear Ian
A funeral service for Ian will be held Tuesday, October 31, 2023 from 9:00 AM to 10:00 AM at Rose Hills Memorial Park - Memorial Chapel, 3888 Workman Mill Rd, Whittier, California 90601.

I just read the deeply sad news on SCI arc’s instagram that Robert Mangurian has past away. He had such a deeply positive impact on Architectural education, students and educators like myself. I had the honor and pleasure of working with both he and Mary-Ann Ray at Sciarc in the early 2000’s.

Denise Scott Brown told CNN that "as a woman, she had felt excluded by the elite of architecture throughout her career," and that "the Pritzker Prize was based on the fallacy that great architecture was the work of a 'single lone male genius' at the expense of collaborative work."[57] In 2020, the Pritker jury said in its citation awarding the prize to Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara – making them the fourth and fifth women to ever be awarded the prize – that they were, "pioneers in a field that has traditionally been and still is a male-dominated profession [and] beacons to others as they forge their exemplary professional path."
The Pritzker’s are trying to remedy what they did by not giving Denise Scott Brown, the award in 2013. I hope that Denise Scott Brown and other deserving architects like Elizabeth Diller, Jeanne Gang and others will be recognized by the Pritzker !!!!
For The 1st Time, Architecture's Most Prestigious Prize Is Awarded To 2 Women
Yvonne Farrell and Shelley McNamara founded Grafton Architects in Dublin in 1978. The Pritzker Architecture Prize jury called the two Irish architects "beacons" in a male-dominated field.
