Today we're excited to introduce Miss A. Avent!

Miss Avent teaches English and is beginning her first full year of teaching at Chesapeake High School after joining the Cougar community during the previous school year! πŸ’™πŸ’›

Creativity is a big part of who she is. Her heart is in creative writing, and she also loves singing 🎀, dancing πŸ’ƒ, painting 🎨, knitting 🧢, coloring, and other creative activities.

This year, Miss Avent is especially excited to decorate her classroom and create a space that represents her personality while spending more time getting to know her students.

As a new teacher building her classroom, anything families provide is greatly appreciated. One item she's particularly interested in having is a selection of fidgets to give students an appropriate outlet when they need a little movement or help staying focused.

Today we're excited to welcome Mrs. Bethany Garland back to Chesapeake High School β€” this time as a teacher! πŸ’™πŸ’›

Mrs. Garland will be teaching Dance, Health, and Physical Education. She's beginning her 5th year teaching, but this will be her very first year teaching at CHS!

And this one is extra special...

Mrs. Garland is a Chesapeake High School Class of 2014 alum! πŸŽ“ While she was a student here, participating in the CHS dance program inspired her to pursue dance education as a career.

Now she's returning to teach in the program that helped start it all. πŸ’ƒπŸ’™

Mrs. Garland says teaching dance at CHS is her dream job, and she's excited to work on growing the program this year!

Outside of school, she's mom to a 13-month-old daughter, loves coffee β˜•, the beach πŸ–οΈ and sweets. πŸͺ

Today we're excited to introduce Mrs. Maggie Graham!

Mrs. Graham teaches Earth/Space Science, Astronomy, and Chemistry and is beginning her 16th year teaching and 4th year at Chesapeake High School! πŸ’™πŸ’›

When she's not teaching science, Mrs. Graham enjoys going to the beach πŸ–οΈ, reading πŸ“š, watching movies 🎬, and seeing plays and musicals 🎭. She's also mom to an 8-year-old daughter heading into 3rd grade β€” and a bearded dragon named Flora! 🦎

This year, Mrs. Graham is excited to make her classroom a place where students feel welcome, comfortable, and excited to come each day. Donations from her wish list will help provide the supplies and resources she needs to create a warm, inviting space for her students.

Today we're excited to introduce Mr. Kevin McCoy!

Mr. McCoy teaches AP Calculus AB/BC and Geometry and is beginning his 22nd year teaching and 2nd year at Chesapeake High School! πŸ’™πŸ’›

An Ohio State Buckeye living in Maryland, Mr. McCoy is a big sports fan who cheers for the Orioles, Commanders, Capitals, Mystics and just about anything Team USA! πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ He also loves coaching softball πŸ₯Ž, solving Rubik's Cubes, tackling escape rooms and anything else that makes him think logically.

Most of all, he enjoys spending time with his family β€” whether they're playing games, hanging out or traveling together.

Mr. McCoy also started the Math Honor Society chapter at Chesapeake High School last year and serves as its advisor! βž—πŸ“

He's moving into a new classroom this year and is looking forward to making it his own β€” especially when it's time to decorate for the holidays! πŸŽƒπŸŽ„

Today we're excited to introduce Mrs. Stefanie Bennett!

Mrs. Bennett will be teaching 9th & 10th grade English this year. She is beginning her 21st year in education and 12th year at Chesapeake High School! πŸ’™πŸ’›

But this year brings something brand new! After previously teaching Special Education, this will be Mrs. Bennett's first official year as a general education teacher β€” and her first year with a classroom of her very own! πŸŽ‰πŸ“š

She's excited to create a classroom environment that promotes peace, personal growth, and most importantly, learning. πŸ’™

Today we're excited to introduce Mrs. Laura Williams!

Mrs. Williams teaches AP Pre-Calculus, Honors Pre-Calculus, and Algebra 1, and she's heading into an incredible 29th year of teaching β€” her 16th year at Chesapeake High School! πŸ’™πŸ’›

When she's not teaching math, Mrs. Williams enjoys spending time with family and friends, boating 🚀, reading πŸ“š, taking walks, going to the beach πŸ–οΈ, and cheering on the Orioles, Ravens, and β€” most importantly β€” whatever teams her kids are playing for!

This year, she'll also be the advisor for the new She Leads club at CHS! πŸ’ͺ

Mrs. Williams loves keeping snacks and drinks in her classroom β€” both as rewards for a job well done and for those days when a student simply needs a little pick-me-up. Her classroom can also use pencils, dry-erase markers and erasers, sheet protectors, and other everyday supplies.

Today we're excited to introduce Mr. Shawn Girch!

Mr. Girch teaches Alt One and is beginning his 17th year teaching and 2nd year at Chesapeake High School! πŸ’™πŸ’›

When he's not at CHS, you'll probably find him running around the country watching his three boys play sports. πŸƒβ€β™‚οΈπŸ†

He also enjoys graphic design and even has a small apparel company!

Mr. Girch's goal this year is to create a unique high school environment where every student finds a way to be successful and feels like they are part of our school. πŸ’™
