Back to school means new schedules, new routines, and sometimes new conversations about your child's IEP.

Here's your friendly reminder: schools cannot reduce or eliminate services without holding an IEP meeting first. Any change to your child's program requires your participation and written notice.

If something feels off with your child's schedule this year, you have every right to ask questions and be part of that conversation.

You know your child best. Trust that.

πŸ“š Know Your Rights: Least Restrictive Environment

Your child has the right to be educated alongside their peers, in the least restrictive environment possible, with the supports they need to succeed there.

Removal from the general education setting should only happen when it is truly necessary, not because it's easier or more convenient. If your child is being pulled out more than you think makes sense, ask why. Ask what supports have been tried first. Ask what the data shows.

You have the right to ask these questions, and your school has to answer them πŸ’™

Let's talk about what's really at stake when public education gets shortchanged. πŸ’™

L.E.A.D. is teaming up with Parents United for Public Schools for a Community Town Hall on the cost of shortchanging Cuyahoga County schools. This is a space for parents, educators, admins, caregivers, and advocates to learn about current policies and funding trends, and talk through real strategies for making sure our most vulnerable students still get what they need to succeed.

Come with your questions. Come with your voice. Come ready to build community with people who get it.

Every learner deserves a fully funded chance. Let's show up for them together.

πŸ“‹ New Freebie: Daily Communication Log Templates

For our families whose kiddos can't always tell you about their day, these logs do the talking. Track meals, bathroom, therapies, behavior, and the little moments that matter, all in one place your child's team can fill out and send home.

Communication logs are a simple tool that can make a big difference. They help you spot patterns, catch concerns early, and walk into your next IEP meeting with real data instead of guesswork.

We put together a few different template styles so you can pick what works best for your family. Grab your favorite (or all of them) on our Services & Resources page, link in bio πŸ’™

πŸ‘‹ New here? Let us introduce ourselves!

We're L.E.A.D. (Learn. Empower. Advocate. Discover.), a free special education advocacy nonprofit serving families across Ohio.

πŸ’™ What we do:
We walk alongside caregivers through the special education process. IEP and 504 meeting support, ETR reviews, workshops, community events, and connections to other resources. All completely free.

πŸ’™ Why we do it
L.E.A.D. was started by two caregivers who lived this journey themselves. We know what it feels like to sit at that table not knowing your rights, not knowing the acronyms, not knowing where to even start. We built L.E.A.D. so no caregiver has to figure it out alone.

πŸ’™ How to reach us
Whether you're heading into your first IEP meeting or your fiftieth, we're here. Send us a message, email [email protected], or visit www.discover-lead.com to connect with an advocate.

You are not alone in this. We see you, and we've got you.

Tag a caregiver who needs to know we exist! And drop a πŸ’™below if L.E.A.D. has supported you or your family.
