"Call culture" or informal suspensions are not a substitute for proper special education support.
When schools repeatedly send a student home without addressing the root cause of the behavior, they are bypassing the system meant to help your child succeed. If this is happening to your family, you have the right to challenge it in writing. ๐
Knowing your rights is the first step to changing the narrative. Let L.E.A.D. help you move from frustration to advocacy.
What questions do you have about documenting school patterns? Drop them below. ๐

This just happened. TODAY (6/16/26).
Secretary McMahon announced that OSERS, the federal office that oversees IDEA and special education programs, is being moved to HHS. And OCR, the office that investigates civil rights complaints when your child's rights are violated, is being moved to the Department of Justice.
Let's be clear about what this means for your family:
OSERS has spent decades building expertise on how to serve students with disabilities in educational settings. HHS is medically oriented. It views children through the lens of diagnosis and treatment, not educational access and growth.
Your child is not a patient. They are a student with federally protected rights. And those rights just got harder to enforce.
Here is what you can do right now:
Call or email your U.S. Senators and Representative and tell them you oppose this move. Be direct: OSERS belongs in the Department of Education. OCR belongs in the Department of Education. Students with disabilities deserve advocates who understand education, not just medicine.
Not sure who represents you? Find your federal legislators at www.congress.gov/members/find-your-member.
L.E.A.D. is still here. Our advocacy services are still FREE. And we are not going anywhere.
Tag a caregiver who needs to know this. Share this post. And if you need support navigating your child's IEP or filing a complaint, reach out at [email protected] or visit www.discover-lead.com.

We hear it all the time. "We don't have the staff." "The budget just doesn't allow for it." Here's what the law says: that is not your problem to solve. Your child's right to a Free Appropriate Public Education does not pause because a district is short-staffed or over budget. Needs dictate services. Full stop.
If you're sitting in an IEP meeting and hearing excuses instead of answers, you don't have to navigate that alone. L.E.A.D. Special Education Advocates provides free advocacy services to caregivers just like you. Built by caregivers, for caregivers.

Ohio just passed Sub. S.B. 315 and caregivers, here's the honest take:
The scariest parts of the original bill didn't make it. That's a win. ๐
But prior authorization for behavioral services is now law. And providers face new compliance hurdles that could affect your child's care.
At L.E.A.D., our world is special education, IEPs, evaluations, and making sure kids get the services they deserve at school. But our families don't live in a silo. What happens in Medicaid policy affects the same children we show up for every day.
We were built by caregivers, for caregivers. So we'll keep watching this because that's what it means to be in your corner.
Follow us for updates as this rolls out. ๐

๐ข HB 795 UPDATE: They couldn't get the votes, so they found a backdoor.
Here's what happened:
The House Medicaid Committee tried to pass the provision that would have banned paid family caregivers. They didn't have enough votes. You stopped it. But instead of accepting that loss, the bill's sponsor is now trying to attach those same harmful provisions to SB 315, a completely separate bill currently in the House Finance Committee.
Here's what makes this especially concerning: nobody has seen the amendment yet. Not families. Not committee members. We don't know what's in it and that's exactly what happened before with HB 795, when a 177-page rewrite was dropped hours before a committee vote with no time for families to respond. We cannot let that happen again.
We are asking the House Finance Committee to TABLE any amendments or sub bills to SB 315 until the disability community has the opportunity to read and comment on what's actually being proposed.
๐ Call or email the Finance Committee now. Leave a voicemail if no one answers it counts. Your message:
"Please table any amendments or sub bills to SB 315 until the Ohio Disability Community can provide comment. Ohioans with disabilities and their families will be harmed."
