A language once spoken by 13 million native speaking individuals Yiddish is now spoken by less than three million people and only in very strict religious Jewish communities. Yiddish is a Germanic language based on medieval German with influence from liturgical Hebrew and Aramaic (the language spoken by Christ). Before the holocaust there was a thriving Yiddish literary tradition and theatre. The UNESCO (United Nations Scientific and Cultural Organization) list the language as endangered. We at Langston Mathews Tutoring consider it an obligation to bolster the amount of Yiddish speakers through our teaching of both the alphabet and phonology of the language. So….. Greek history has a significant influence on the western world through its politics, theology, mythology, and language. Did you know that one of the most famous speakers of Greek was Jesus Christ? Shakespeare erroneously gives Julius Caesar’s last words as “Et Tu Brute?” (“And you Brutus?”). What if I told you that most Romans were Hellenized (Greek influenced) even Caesar.
